Are the ranges of drones based on the communication tech in the main book?

Also I saw mention of a drone suite for the bridge of some of the drones. But I can't find a write up of what exactly it is. Does anyone know where to locate it?

What kind of drones are you talking about? Drones the size of robots or Drones the size of fighters. Fighter size, I'd say as within a system. Robot size, I'd say, anywhere from city range to planet range, depending on the power of the antenna in the drone.

Like the probe or fighter drones...the communications range is like 500 miles IIRC in the main book. So I was wondering if they could be controlled longer than that by the rules.

That sounds good to me. I believe that comms in Traveller is limited to the speed of light. Light takes 8 minutes to go from the sun to earth. You definitely can't control drones in a fire fight with feedback being 8 minutes old.
