Drazi 5 point Raid / Vree 5 Point Raid

Mongoose
Guys,

Can you give me your advice on a 5 point raid fleet for either Drazi or Vree (to see if your ideas differ from mine). If you could include a brief sentance on the tactics you would use.

P.S. Only ships from SFoS or Armageddon are allowed in my group.

Drazi: 2 points on a Stormfalcon, split the remaining three so you get 3 Warbirds and 6 Sunhawks. Maybe forego the Stormfalcon and buy two Solarhawks.

Mixed Drazi and Vree: 8x Strikehawk, 4x Vaarl

That got me 1st place in one tournament (so it is a good fleet), then 8th out of 12 in another (so it is not a broken fleet).

for pure Vree i would go with 1 Xaak, 2 Xills, 2 Xixx (or 1 Xixx, 2 Vaarls).

for Drazi something like 6 strike hawks, 4 darkhawks. or any combination of the 2.

Mmmmm I smell the cheese from here :P

Drazi bat squad indeed (just kidding, seriouslt the strikehawk is a fantastic little ship and with vree scouts to support them an excellent choice)

I didnt say it was GOOD cheese :P

(as I said I was kidding)

Drazi are one of the few fleets that I actually feel it is not just powergaming to take a swarm fleet. Thats in character and pretty much how we see the Drazi fight normally :D

And losing with a fleet doesnt prove the fleet is fair though, it just proves someone had an even more broken fleet :P Either that or you just suck at ACTA/Dice rolling :P

Hmm...depends on your opponents - are you awarding 1VP per fighter base destroyed regardless of how it is purchased (i.e. in independent wings or carried craft? (think that's standard Armageddon ruling or that may just be Mongoose tournaments).

Might be worth considering the following mixed fleet

Point 1: Strikehawk x 1, Vaarl x 1, Star Snake Wing x 1 (5 Flights)
Point 2: Strikehawk x 2 (they carry a Sky Serpent each so 2 flights)
Point 3: Strikehawk x 2 (they carry a Sky Serpent each so 2 flights)
Point 4: Xixx x 1, Vaarl x 1, Tzymm Wing x 1 (3 Flights)
Point 5: Xixx x 1, Vaarl x 1, Tzymm Wing x 1 (3 Flights)

Gives you a bit of variety in the fleet (especially fighters) which are always nice to paint up if playing with minis and/or collecting and should be fun to play - alternatively, if you're opponent is very anti-fighter You could substitute point 1 for just Strikehawk x 2...but that's boring ;)

Tactic for fleet would be to use Vaarls as initiative sinks and to gain scout re-rolls on high-value target, use Star-Snakes to delay and dogfight their fighters while your Tyzmms and Sky Serpents destroy them from distance.

Keep your Xixx well out of range using their SM, peppering ships with torpedoes while your Drazi make "slashing" attacks (boresight opponents, shooting past with All Power to Engines or whatever then turning around to do the same again...)

Meanwhile, hopefully you will have sufficient fighter advantage to be able to employ your Bombers (Sky Serpents and Tzymms) to attack ships hopefully blowing some up too or a least depleting their interceptors prior to the Xixx firing. Make sure to make good use of bombers vs. ships otherwise well protected (i.e. Stealthy ships).

Not quite a sentence but I suck at summarising sorry :(

This isn't very scientific, but for Drazi I would be tempted to do what someone I play with does. 5 point raid = 10 warbirds. Being on the recieving end of this is harder than you would think, they get EVERYWHERE!!! Also this fleet kind of has a drazi feel to it, lots of hard little ships, coming to an area of space near you.

I'd use Strikehawks over Warbirds. You lose the F arc AF weapon (which is fairly useless anyway, the enemy fighters just go round the back), but gain a Sky Serpent and some damage. A pack of Sky Serpents can put out wicked damage, and 10 of them can even get you up to a positive dogfight score ;)

True, those sky serpants would come in handy. Like I said it isn't a very scientific fleet, but it is fun. I usually play centauri, but I still think warbirds are one of the grooviest skirmish ships out there. That hull six means they can take a solid hit on the chin to some extent.
