Dragon Warriors fanzine ORDO DRACONIS #1 now available--free

ORDO DRACONIS is a new fanzine for the DragonWarriors RPG, available four times a year. Each issue is released as a free PDF that can be downloaded from the Magnum Opus Press website, the Mongoose Publishing website, DriveThruRPG.com and several other websites.

The first issue of ORDO DRACONIS is 36 pages long, and contains:
  • * A new character profession, the Friar;
    * The first part of the Thuland Campaign;
    * ‘The Ruins of Castle Cerreg', an adventure set in the far south;
    * An interview with Dragon Warriors creator Dave Morris and publisher James Wallis;
    * Dave Morris's thoughts on the role of faerie in the Lands of Legend;
    * A description of the county of Anglicia in Ellesland;
    * New artwork from DW cover-artist Jon Hodgson;
    * A copy of the very first sketch-map of the Lands of Legend, from 1984;
    * and more.
ORDO DRACONIS is an unofficial publication, produced and published by fans of the Dragon Warriors game and its setting. It is not owned, licensed or approved by Magnum Opus Press, but the company is happy to support it and keen to see it succeed.

This is brilliant. Super support for DW. Its a very well put together zine with great content. I think what is especially wonderful is the contribution by Dave Morris on the nature of fey in DW. Inspiring stuff and well done to all.

I've had a quick read through and found the content to be very impressive - well done and here's to issue #2!

Btw will you be asking for contributions?

Awesome!
It's GREAT to know that DW will be supported that way!
I read almost all the à #1 issue and I think it's amazing.
Ordo Draconis is well done, well written and made, and there
are a lot of interesting and useful infos and stuff. Art is very
good too (Jon Hogdson RULEZ) and the genera layout is very
very nice.

I enjoyed all the articles I read so far, even if I don't agree with
Dave Morris when, in his article about faeries, he says that if someone
wants to use elves and dwarves as in a "Tolkien" way he/she should
give up DW and play MERP or D&D.
I'm new to DW, but I began to GMastering more than 20 years ago,
and I always used my own world. My world is a darkfantasy one,
so isn't exactly the Middle Earth or Gygax's fantasy settings, but my
interpretation of fairies is quite different from Dave's. My setting is
more similar to medieval Italy (since I'm italian) but in my world
the non-human characters are a true "presence", they're not the
fay described in Legend.
I understand Dave meant "to give up Legend" and he could be right
in this. Even if, in my understand of role playing games, everyone can
play any setting and do what he/she want with it. You can play D&D
using the Middle Earth, and you could even change all the setting of it (what if Sauron won the war?), or play RuneQuest using Warhammer's Old World... or you can change details of those settings or create your
own.
I will play Dragon Warriors using my own setting and, if there will be some
room for it, I would like to share some infos about it on DW Wiki and/or with other players or GMs.

By the way, above all, ORDO DRACONIS is great and I love it!

Jon Hodgson is probably too modest to mention it on this forum, but in his brand-new book "Fantasy Art for Beginners" he has included a detailed 16-page guide to the creation of the superb Ordo Draconis #1 cover illustration! :)

Jon also makes brief comments on four small 1/4-page reproductions of cover illustrations from the Dragon Warriors Rulebook, DW Bestiary, Sleeping Gods and Elven Crystals.
