Dragon Magic question

Banded Mongoose
Deafening Cry, found in MoG

"Any character with the area of the spell that fails the Resilience test loses his next 1D4 combat actions and becomes prone"

Does this effect include the caster? Or rather, should it?

The following has really no basis from the RAW but might be fun

However about an actual Draconic caster (like a Dragonewt or er Dragon) then they are not affected. But a WF human or other would be affected. So non-Dracoic WFs would need to think carefully as to whether they want to use it or not

Bear in mind that EWF humans are mystics, well able to attune their minds to the magic they use. I'd suggest that even human draconic mystics are unaffected by the Deafening Cry effect simply because they are prepared mentally and spiritually for the onslaught. Dragonewts, naturally, would be immune because... well, they just are - although the Defeaning Cry would probably flatten and terrify Cresteds which, struggling with their essential natures, don't have the resilience found in the higher dragonewt stages.

Thanks all.

Good point about the Dragon Mystics Loz. Perhaps they should get a bonus to their Resilience based on their Draconic Illumination skill, or ever use the latter in the opposed roll if it is higher than their Resilience.

Of course, as my players are currently running around in the 3rd age, I don't think their Draconic Illumination is going to be very high

Nah, deluded fools need a dose of proper old time religion.

A carefully fostered image propogated by the Eternal Dragon Ring and the Guiding Council to mislead arrogant God Learners, stupid Orlanthi and intransigent Dara Happans. Realising the Inner Dragon is the only true path to transcendence... Gods are meaningless against the infinite wisdom of the Cosmic Dragon.

:D

In my game it's a bit of both. For example, the PCs tribe celebrate The Scaly Yinkin where the town does a sort of Chinese dragon dance with a dragon puppet with a cat's head. On that day Yinkin sheds his skin (and some of the players slip into the God World while still being in this one a la John Hughes style Heroquesting). They have the old ways merged with the new as standard.

It's only those who wish to advance socially that concentrate on the dragon cults while those who stick to the old ways can only do so in private as in Viking Iceland (and only because of fierce internal politics and relative isolation from the EWF centres). The EWF power pyramid gets its sacrificed power and the community expresses itself in time honoured fashion.

All this will change when the EWF demands the town stops sacrificing to the ancestors but i've yet to throw that one at them.
