Dorastor, Land of Chaos

Okay, I don’t have the book 'Dorastor, Land of Doom,' although I have heard it’s a very good one. Does anyone have any ideas of the condition and inhabitants of Dorastor in the Second Age?

It seems Gata, the first goddess, conceived (without a husband) and bore a son, Genert. This son fathered many daughters including Pela (whose name was given to Peloria). This beautiful goddess was taken to wife by Genert and a child of this union was a goddess named Dorasta (whose name was given to Dorastor).

The big event that made Dorastor famous was the ritual of the Second Council who, through various rituals created a god. This god, known as Nysalor, or the Bright One, ruled the Golden Empire for seventy five years, but was eventually overthrown by Arkat on a hero-quest. Arkat named the Bright One Gbaji, the evil god of deception. Since then the area of Dorastor has been festering with chaotic evil.

Neighboring Talastar, including delightful Hellwood with its Poisonthorn Elves, Broo, Spiderfolk, and the Telmori werewolves (the noble savages of the land) seem too good to pass up as adventure opportunities.

This is just what I’ve been able to piece together from various ‘bits and nibbles’ I have collected. It seems to me that these chaotic forces don’t just stay within their boundaries like good little ‘demons’ should, but they must come out to invade the surrounding lands of Dragon Pass, and trouble them from time to time.

I was wondering if we could use this thread to pool ideas and resources. What would significant groups in Dorastor have to do with the surrounding Barbarians and EWF? Why is Dorastor so very, very bad? Have any foolish or perhaps enterprising people tried to colonize or begin trade in these lands? Perhaps how would the EWF be involved with these areas? What is the history of the area? What are good links to other sites on the net?

I have determined, from what Greg has said and what others have said on these threads, and what the supplements say, that EWF in Dragon Pass does not consist of a thriving empire at this time (despite the name 'Empire of Wyrms Friends'). It is in the process of building and there are various groups and factions (barbarian tribes, mostly) and that the ‘cities’ of Dragon Pass must not be very large. This makes it a perfect spot to begin adventuring, and neigboring Dorastor and Talastar seem to be challenging adventuring sites for more experienced adventurers.

Any information anyone could share would be helpful.

Sorry, I have always assumed that Dorastor was in Dragon Pass. It's actually in southwestern Peloria with Aggar and the Hydra Mountains separating it from Dragon Pass. (Thank you for the nice maps, Keith Curtis.) There is clearly a pass going from Dorastor to Ralios. So those in Ralios wishing to travel to Peloria would have to go through this pass. Enterprising merchants may wish to forge a trade route from Sylila to Ralios. I would think that the EWF would definitely be interested in gaining control of this pass to control the outline of the great dragon shown in the map on page 28 GtSA. Perhaps they have already made attempts to do so?

So, let me rephrase the question. Does anyone have any ideas on the regions surrounding Dorastor, such as Aggar and Bilini. Gloranatha the Second Age states that Aggar is a shunned land, inhabited by 'crazy people.' Does anyone know anything about the people of Aggar or of Bilini ( a barbarian 'buffer zone'). Do the barbarians regularly raid settlements in Sylia or are relations peaceful, for the most part, between Bilini and Sylia.

Does anyone have a concept of Dorastor in the Second Age. Is it sort of a 'Mordor' for the neighboring land of Sylila? Is anyone thinking of running a campaign in or near Dorastor? Is the concept of Nysalor and Gbaji that of similar but separate deities in the Peloria region. What is the EWF stand on chaos, Nysalor, Gbaji, chaos? It's hard for me to think that the area hasn't had a great influence on surrounding areas. I still think that the areas surrounding Dorastor and Talastar would make interesting campaign areas with the emerging EWF.

Any thoughts, additional information, or ideas would be welcome.

I notice that this thread is being viewed frequently, but no responses are given. I am assuming that this is because some gamers who don’t know much about Dorastor want to know more about it.

Some information was given by Greg Stafford at the World of Glorantha club, and from this information I uncovered some more by browsing the internet.

Cult of Thed:

Thed was a great goddess who fathered Broos which were untainted by chaos. Together with Malia they developed a plan to bring Evil into the world. In their pride, they sought to usurp the functions of the universe in an effort to become its rulers. Thed herself became the mother of the Devil, and his malevolence turned her inside out in childbirth.

The Son of Thed
Work on the Son of Thed was written by Simon Phipp as follows:

Many years ago when the Bright Empire spread its knowledge and wisdom, it attracted the attention of a number of outsiders who wanted to destroy the Bright Empire and to take its secrets. These enemies attacked the Bright Empire and made the weakest afraid. Several of the weakest decided to fight the enemies by using their own powers against them, so they summoned up Fear and Hate and Violence to fight the enemies. Fear, Hate and Violence came in the shape of a demigod originally banished from the world before the Dawning.

This demigod had been fathered, along with many others, on the goddess Thed by Ragnaglar the Mad God. He was known simply as The Son of Thed and took the form of a Giant Broo. As always, Fear, Hate and Vengeance cannot be controlled or used by good people and The Son of Thed began to destroy those who had summoned him. Many tried to defeat him but failed, weakening the Bright Empire in its time of need.
At last, an aspiring Hero fought the Son of Thed and imprisoned it in a giant fortress within Dorastor.

This Hero suffered greatly at the hands of the Son of Thed and was weakened when the Great Invasion occurred. Because of his wounds, the Hero was defeated by Gbaji and lay as if dead for many years. He was resurrected by his slaves and began to rule the land of Dorastor as Ralzakark.

Much more on Ralzakark can be found at http://www.soltakss.com/thedson1.html

According to Greg this resurrection takes place in the Second Age, so he may either be asleep (as dead), or awakened depending on the time of the campaign. I do not know the exact date of his awakening, as this was not made clear.

The geography of Dorastor ‘mutates within itself,’ and Greg says it is too dangerous to cross. The EWF solve this problem by flying over it to get to Ralios. If they need to physically occupy all of the Great Dragon before it can be raised, then Dorastor will become a problem at some point in the future. Bilini and Talastar are Orlanthi lands, troubled by their proximity to Doastor and culturally influenced by the civilizations closest to them.
When asked if Dorastor was like Mordor, Greg responded, ‘It's worse than Mordor in that it is chaotic. I am not sure that there ae people capable of crossing it when it is seethingly chaotic. The Lunars do, later, but they have more power over/more friendship with chaos.’

Dorastor is filled with the ruins of a great civilization from the first age. Winds of Chaos from Dorastor occasionally affect surrounding lands (including Sylila) with disease and passion spirits which cause plague and blight. Sylila is regularly raided by denizens of Talastar and Dorastor. No attempts are made to colonize Dorastor until the Telmori go to live there. Later the Elves of Rist go to live there.

Surrounding cultures loathe both Nysalor and Gbaji, understandably.

Many questions remain unanswered, but it is clear that Dorastor is not intended as a place of adventure, but more as a place from which dangeous encounters might come. It seems to me that Dorastor might be used for high-level hero quests in which Dorastor represents chaos or death in a mythic event. The Lightbringer quest may be re-enacted if a great prophet or a priest of Yelm were captured and taken into Dorastor and the heroes went in to rescue him.

More ideas, info, and comments would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't have it, get it! It's a brilliant supplement. It's written for 3rd Age, but there's a lot that can be used in a 2nd Age campaigne. Just search eBay from time to time and a copy is bound to appear.

SGL.

I've just read the thread, so sorry for any delay in answering.

I ran a Dorastor campaign for 5 years or so and ran scenarios in Dorastor sporadically for 5 years before that. Most of what I had developed was based on Cults of Terror and came before Dorastor:Land of Doom and Drastic:Chaos, so woiuld differ from the official stuff quite a bit.

I do have a fairly detailed writeup of my Dorastor Campaign on my website, but again this is unofficial, so don't take any of it as gospel, but use it or ignore it as you wish.

Dorasta was the daughter of Genert and Pelora, who was the daughter of Genert and Gata - he got about a bit, did Genert. She is the Land Goddess of Dorastor, which is North of the Rockwoods, between Aggar/Talastar and Charg. Kartolin Pass is between Dorastor and Ralios, guarded by Kartolin Castle, whihc is a magical place.

In the Godtime, there was a civilisation in Dorastor, the Feldichi, which nobody knows anything about. They did leave behind some strange artifacts and a fair number of abandoned cities. The Unholy Trio made their pact in Dorastor and (perhaps) it was the Devil's Birthplace, but I prefer top believe that's where the Devil was conceived. The First Council moved to Dorastor when they discovered the remnants of this civilisation and decided to start the God Project, becoming the Second Council in the process. They created a godling called Nysalor who cursed the trolls and dargonewts for abandoning the project. The dragonewt curse was eaten by a True Dragon who woke up especially to help out. The trolls suffered Gbaji's Curse and bore trolkin young. The dragonewts seem to have been unaffected, but served as mercenaries for Nyslaor.

Nysalor was born during the Sunstop, where Yelm stopped in the sky, causing all sorts of problems. This was a HeroQuesting event that involved a lot of work by a lot of powerful heroquestors and nobody knows how long the sun stopped for. It was started again by a spider that appeared and dragged it in motion. During this time, many HeroQuests were performed, one of which was to gain power from a barbarian god called Humakt and a son was born, Arkat. He was raised in Brithini by elves and belonged to the Soldier Caste.

Nysalor's Empire seemed all bright and nice, but had a dark side to it. There was a plague that only their missionaries could cure, as they had started it. There were other atrocities as well. The Brithini decided to stop the spread of the Bright Empire and started a Crusade in Tanisor. Arkat was instrumental in fighting and defeated the Vampire Kings of Tanisor. He then left the Brithini and joined the Hrestoli, becoming a Farmer and then a Knight. He fought his way through Ralios and reached Kartolin pass where he met Nysalor in combat, was killed and bound in a jar in Hell.

The Bright Empire then became more and more corrupt, with Lokyamodon, the head of the Storm Cults, trying to usurp Orlanth and become King of the Gods. The traditional Orlanthi opposed him, but failed because he stopped all initiations into the Orlanth cult, which was a bit of a bummer for Orlanthi. All initiation attempts failed because they were opposed by powerful HeroQuestors. Eventually, a chappie by the name of Harmast succeded in becoming an Initiate and started HeroQuesting. Eventually, he put together the lost Lightbringers Quest and decided to try and save the world, bringing back Arkat as his prize.

The Orlanthi taught Arkat some secrets about his unbreakable sword and his father, then he joined the Humakt cult, becoming Arkat Humaktsson. He fought and fought, but was stopped at every turn. He gained an unhealable wound on a heroquest, which slowed him down even further. He saw how strong the trolls were and how they were expert at fighting chaos A troll cured his incurable wound so he left Humakt and became a Mistress Race Troll, joining the cult of Zorak Zoran. The energised troll armies swept across Genertela, destroying all in their wake, so Harmast went on the Lightbringers Quest again, coming back with Talor the Laughing Warrior.

With Arkat streaming in from the East and Talor from the South, Nysalor was a bit stuck. His people took on more and more chaos powers to help them in the fight and eventually Arkat entered Dorastor and fought Nyslaor/Gbaji, destroying him.

Afterwards, he razed Dorastor, destroying the buildings, salting and poisoning the earth and killing pretty much everything around. The Elves survived, those in Poisonthorn Wood had "always" oposed Nysalor and because Arkat was raised by elves. The rest of the inhabitants were killed.

Dorastor was sealed, so that none may enter and none may leave, because they didn't want the chaos to return. After the Gbaji Wars, there were a lot of Chaos Nests and weak spots in the fabric of Glorantha there and chaos could easily seep through. Guards were placed and wards were used to keep the Chaos down.

So far, so good. Then the nearby empires forgot how bad the Gbaji Wars were and how the world was nearly destroyed. They remembered how the Second Council made a god in Dorastor and thought "Hey, we're making a new Dragon, perhaps there's something in Dorastor that could help us." or "Hey, we're investigating the gods of different cultures, perhaps there's some new information in Dorastor that can help us." So, they had a look. The Jrusteli had conquered Arkat's Dark Empire and raided its secrets, so they knew how to defeat Dorastor and weren't afraid. They believed that Arkat had hidden secrets deep beneath Dorastor, so they sent a well-equipped expedition to have a look, but nobody returned. In 824, Balarzak Leatherwing flew in and took some ash and dirt, reporting that things were growing and great beasts were heard moving in the woods. They escaped but all died within three years. Around 850, the Telmori who had been cursed by Talor and were led by Nangtali arrived and were allowed to live in what is now known as Nangtali's Plateau, helped by the Poisonthorn Elves. In 857, two Talastari Heroes enetered Dorastor and returned a year later as Draugr, vile Undead Demons. Broos came out of Dorastor around about this time and Ralzakark was known to be in Fort Wrath. In 1100, broos raided Talastar in force, so must have been strong. After the Lunar Empire was founded, two major invasions occurred, in 1297, the surviving elves of Rist entered Dorastor, fleeing the Moonburn, and founded Hellwood, the Mad Sultan led a band of chaos-maddened survivors of the First Battle of Chaos and were enchanted downriver into Dorastor in 1453.

So, what about Second Age Dorastor? Well, at the time of the curent events, 908 ST, we know the following had happened:
1. The Jrusteli expedition had disappeared
2. The Telmori were living in Nangtali's Plateau
3. The Poisonthorn Elves were safe and sound in their forest
4. Ralzakark had probably moved into Fort Wrath
5. There was an undead presence in Dorastor
6. The Arkati Guardians had been smashed or severely weakened by the Jrusteli and the bonds that bound Dorastor had been weakened
7. The land had reawakened to a large extent

So, who might we find there?

Telmori are in the north, these were ones that had been cursed by Talor, so they would have more of the Chaotic shapechanging Telmori and less of the Hsunchen Telmor-worshipping Telmori, although the wolfbrothers also worshipped Telmor.

Poisonthorn Elves are in the south and let nobody into their forests.

Vampires or other undead inhabit their areas. In my game they lived in the Tower of Lead, but that may not be canon.

Neverdead is probably active and churning out zombies and other undead. In my game, they had a Giant King, just because a 15m giant vampire looked cool, and still does.

Ralzakark lives in Fort Wrath with his broos. He may or may not have founded the Humakti Broo Legion, I would say he had because I like them and it pisses off any players with Humakti PCs.

Since the land has been reawakened, it implies that Dorasta has been unchained. In my game, Ralzakark did this by becoming her husband-protector and showing her how to evade Arkat's Curse by constantly changing her plants, a chaotic ability. Also in my game, Dorasta was raped by Arkat and bound in her inner sanctum. Ralzakark freed her and took her as a wife, also emulating Ragnaglar and raped her. She didn't have a very good time.

What else is there? The spiders of Spider Woods might be there, there's no reason why they shouldn't be. Ash Flat is probably the same. Dokat would still be there, and may have been awakened. Ghostdirt Plain would be active. Sludgestream would be full of gunk. The Ashman of Ash Flat has probably woken up. Babool may or may not be there. The Chaos Gaggle, Cacodemon Fiends and Dokat Spirit would be around. Hungry Eater is almost certainly there. Platewalker should be there as he is so obviously from the EWF. Skanth and Skath seem to be immortals and could well be there. The Great Gorp of Slimestone is certainly there. Thing might be.

If Fiends are there, so are Ogres. The EWF might have brought stoorworms. Castle Kartolin is full of semi-corporeal ghosts, keeping things in and out of Dorastor.

If you are familiar with my version of Dorastor, the following would be present. The Shadowmages would be present, though weakened by the Jrusteli attacks, they would have recently moved into Arkat's Last Tower. Golden Eagle would be imprisoned in his Villa and his mercenary band would be active in Dara Happa. The Dragonewt of Storm would be running around thunderbolting anyone entering Dorastor. The Mistress of Light, Guardian of the Fires of Heaven would have been awakened and would have her vampires around her. Ralzakark would have Heidi as a pet, as a Hydra that spits acid is too funny not to include. The Chaos Dragon would be asleep, but EWF interference might wake it up.

The idea of Ralzakark having been awakened by Godlearners who though they could control him and who now has a number of Godlearner Slaves is too good to ignore.

So, that's about it, I think. I hope that helps.

You probably need Dorastor:Land of Doom to understand some of the references, but the references from my campaign can be found at www.soltakss.com in the Dorastor section. There are probably loads I have forgotten about - if you want to know what I think about individuals being in 2nd Age Dorastor, just ask.

The following timeline is given by Peter Metcalfe:

780 God Learners travel into Dorastor and are never seen
again. I believe this is the expedition that tried to
raise Ralzakark on the grounds they couldn't believe
he was evil.

798 Orlanth Priests fly over Kartolin. They report Elves were
still living in the forests of Dorastor that surrounded
a vast ash plain.

800 A huge fire burns in Dorastor. Taken as an ill-omen.

824 EWF expedition to recover ash and water. They
report things that go bump in the night, a hill
that moved around, a mysterious city and an
earthquake. All expedition members die violently
within three years of returning with blood bubbling
from their lips.

850 Telmori move into Dorastor.

852 A Seshnegi knight leads a caravan into Dorastor
and never returns.

857 Two Talastari heroes enter Dorastor. They return as
Draugr.

Yes, that's very helpful Simon... Great piece of information.

What do you think about characters adventuring in 2nd Age Dorastor? I am imagining the survivability factor is pretty darn low, given the information, so far. Since you have already run a Dorastor campaign do you have any ideas for campaigns set in the Second Age? Do you think low level to intermediate level campaigns might be set better in Talastar?

Since adventurers would probably start in Bilini or Sylila, do you have general cultural info or ideas about these areas that isn't in GtSA?

Second Age Dorastor is probably less dangerous than in the Third Age.

The powers have only just been woken up, or in the last 50 years or so. This means they have not become entrenched and are still finding their feet.

Much of Dorastor has not been woken up yet, or is still empty.

A lot of Third Age Dorastor hasn't happened yet. So, the terrible Krjalki Elves of Hellwood have not appeared and Hellwood is probably not particularly chaotic. The Mad Sultan hasn't brought his horde here and there are no Greyskins around. The Lunars are not here interfering with things and stirring up the chaos. There isn't the same amount of infighting in Dorastor as there will be in the Third Age.

Is Dorastor a good place for adventuring in? You betcha! Theer is no Riskland settlement, so that idea is out, but people can come and go a lot easier than in the 3rd Age. There are no Lunar forts stopping people, the Talsatari don't really care about people coming to Dorastor, as long as they don't bring broos back with them.

Dorastor is an excellent place to visit, but you probably wouldn't want to live there, so any 2nd Age Campaign would probably involve raids into Dorastor.

The EWF might be interested in the Stoorworms of Dorastor, or if you are using things form my campaign they might have heard of the Dragonewt of Storm or the Chaos Dragon. They might sponsor expeditions into Dorastor. You might be asked to locate missing expeditions, long-lost artifacts or long-forgotten heroes.

The Jrusteli have an interest in finding what happened to their expedition and might send expendable people in to look for them, on the principle that a small fast-moving band may have a better chance of success. They might also want to know about Ralzakark and the other re-awakened powers.

Humakti might be sent to destroy Neverdead or the vampires in the Tower of Lead. Arkati might flee Ralios and join their brethren amongst the Shadowmages. Storm Bulls and Orlanthi may want to kill Chaos. Some Old Traditionalists may want to find forgotten secrets to use against the EWF and Jrusteli. People may have had relatives taken by chaos/lost in Dorastor/joined the vampires and want them rescued.

Talastar had a period of relative stability after the Gbaji Wars and the Seven Tribes flourished. Then the EWf came, about 50 years ago, and imposed taxes on them. They revolted and have fought the EWF ever since. The EWF sent dragons against the highlanders, but a Carmanian Dragonslayer Sir Javinu and his companions demonised the dragons and slew them. [All from Dorastor Land of Doom]

So, the Talastari tribes are Old Traditionalists, enemies of the EWF. I would guess that they don't have much draconic influences and have thrown off any that have crept in. They would be warriors first and foremost, Orlanthi in culture, but not Heortling, fighting the EWF and gradually forcing them eastwards to Dragon Pass.

In 1100, an army called the Sons of Javinu marched from Talastar to join in the sack of Dragon Pass, but not one survived Dragonkill. [From D:LOD]

North of Talastar is the Forest of Rist, an elven stronghold. West is Charg, East are Aggar and Sylia, both home to Orlanthi Barbarians. South of Dorastor is Ralios, covered in Glorantha the Second Age and the accompanying PDF.

So, there is a lot of scope in using Dorastor in the Second Age. It is still a fun place to GM, especially if you concentrate on the political side of chaos faction agaimst chaos faction.

In my Dorastor, Ralzakark would be trying to consolidate his power by forcing the other powers to pay homage to him and awakening other forgotten powers. The Greasefire was probably Ralzakark teaching the Poisonthorn Elves a lesson, for instance. Enterprising PCs could act as go-betweens for the different chaos powers.

What is in Second Age Dorastor From My Website:

The Son of Thed (Present but bound and hidden, crucified with Adamantine Spikes)

Micro Broos (Not present)

SlimeStone (As in the Third Age)

Ragnaglar's Breath (Present and just as destructive)

Dragonewt of Storm (Present and keeping people out of Dorastor)

Ralzakark (Present and consolidating power)

Twelve Heads Are Better Than One (Present as she is too good to miss)

The Golden Eagle (Bound in his Villa as an insane demigod)

Thunder Mountain (Present, the Running Deed can still be done, Orlanth's Ram can still becontacted here, the Man of Light is asleep beneath the mountain)

Dorasta (Freed by Ralzakark who comes once a year on her High Holy Day to claim his prize as husband-protector and renew her abilities to fight Arkat's Curse by changing plants)

Feather - Lost Storm (He came after the Dragonkill in my original plot, but could well come a bit early to fight Ralzakark - perhaps the PCs go to find out what became of him, or he helps them in Dorastor)

Teacher (A bad idea anyway, Teacher would be Ralzakark's servant/slave)

The Man of Light (Still bound into his fortress, impotent and unable to summon lava, perhaps some PCs can help him and set him as a guardian keeping chaos at bay)

It Had Two Heads (Present but alseep, the EWF may try to swaken the Chaos Dragon, even though it has two heads)

The Great Queen (Third Age, but no reason why she can't appear in the Second Age, after all a ScorpionQueen HeroQuestor is always fun)

The Seven Hills (Cacodemon Tenple probably newly formed)

The Barrier (Third Age, in my campaign only)

The Fog Bank (Third Age, in my campaign only)

HellWood (Just a wood, nothing special, no human-hating Krjalki)

Castle Kartolin (As in the Third Age, an empty Castle full of warrior spirit-guardians)

PoisonThorn Woods (Present and full of Aldryami with poisonous thorns)

The Tower of Lead (Present and probably containing The Mistress of Light, Guardian of the Fires of Heaven and her close associates)

Arkat's Last Tower (Present and probably containing the Shadowmages, fresh from their flight from Ralios)

The Sultan of Vanch (Ho, he's still around, he created the Thanatar Cult but buggered off when he found out he would have to become the Neck. He probably won't be in Dorastor but is a Jrusteli renegade, a priest of Atyar and Than)

The Doomed Man (Present, after the Godlearner who united the cults of Than and Atyar fled the cult, another Thanatari stepped in to take his place, this would be the first Doomed Man)

The Broo Legion (Present and full of spunk, except for the Castrati)

Neverdead (present and churning out undead. The Giant King may or may not be there, if you like a 15m vampire then include him as he is a bit of a laugh)

Stonemen (Probably present)

The Wind Riders (Probably present and of recent EWF origin)

Blood Grove (probably exists, as part of Aldrya)

Cacodemon Temples in Dorastor (Some may be present)

Arkat's Black Pool (Present as in the Third Age)

Spider Men (Present - these are like scorpionmen but are half spider half human)

Fort Wrath (Present and full of Ralzakark and his broos, the lower levels have not been explored and chaos sometimes bursts out and kills a lot of the broos)

Hey, I just looked at your site. You've got some interesting work there on Dorastor. I especially enjoyed your map. It's hard to read on your site but you can search for Dorastor.jpg with the image function on a search engine and enlarge it to a nice size. Nice work, Simon.

By the way, I noticed that Fort Wrath is no longer available on your site. I'm trying to imagine the technology of Dorastor. When we say fort, what are we talking about are we talking about something like http://petite-fort.tripod.com/images/fort.GIF
something like this
http://www.edwebproject.org/oman-dubai/pics/nakhal.fort.jpg
something like this
http://www.castles-of-britain.com/motte.gif
or something more sinister like Minas Morgul
http://gondolin.czweb.org/minasmorgul.jpg

Do any humans (not colonists) inhabit Dorastor or is it just filled with broo and other chaos creatures? In other words, who does Ralzakark rule from Fort Wrath? Is his rule organized or chaotic? How do you imagine Chaotic rule?

Fort Wrath was never available on my site, unfortunately.

It was a fortress built by Mostali who helped the Second Council back in the days of the God Project, or perhaps earlier. They carved out the inside of Plateau Wrath, built a castle there and extended the walls a bit. I based it on The Mines of Dolg, a mapped-out dwarf mine that I bought years and years ago, but I changed the map and the areas covered. Basically it's 20 levels of dwarf mine with caverns beneath it. The lower levels are sealed and what's in there can't get out, unless it does in which case the broos run away for a bit. It's too detailed for a website and too old-fashioned for a supplement.

Glad you liked the Dorastor stuff, it's the best place to adventure, by far. Don't believe what you read - it's a very, very nice place, at least for GMs :D

In the Third Age, the Mad Sultan brought humans into Dorastor, but they were mad and went a bit peculiar, degenerating into greyskins. Riskland was being opened up and the Lunars have several forts in Dorastor.

Second Age, there are no humans in Dorastor, except for Telmori. In my campaign the Shadowmages have a presence there, but they are very small in number. There may be some humans at Dorastor Shrine, but they are likely to be fairly inbred, being earthy types. I can imagine an immortal son of Dorasta fathering children on his daughters generation after generation, keeping the bloodline pure and the shrine going.

Ralzakark rules the other chaos critters. There are broo gangs, ogres, telmori, scorpionmen, vampires, zombies, mummies, ghouls and so on. He even rules over the elves of Poisonthorn, although they won't admit it.

He rules by trickery and force, playing each chaos force off against the others, attacking them if they become too string and playing games. This constant infighting is what keeps the chaos dangerous but contained.

If you save off the map on the Dorastor Map page, you can expand it to whatever size you want, to make it more readable. I kept it at that size for the image map to make it easier for me to cope with, as I am not very technical - I did the image map by creating a blank one, then hovering the mouse over the blank bits, reading the co-ordinates and filling the image map in with raw HTML. Glad you liked it.

As a matter of interest, that map is an extract of one I did for Third Age Central Genertela. Now that I work for a company that has an A0 scanner/plotter, it might be possible to scan the whole map in and make it available as a download or, at least, pull out better extracts. Maybe once I've finished my probationary period, if I've been a good booy ....

I definitely agree with this, as I'm planning on using Anadikki.

The EWF has to deal with Snakepipe Hollow, so I don't think they like Chaos at all. They were all betrayed by Arkat, but the bulk of the EWF fought against Nysalor.

BTW, do check a map, as Sylila is not a neighbor of Dorastor. Again this is heavily Third Age as it's the Lunar Empire (there is no red moon in the Second Age), but check out http://www.glorantha.com/new/maps_lunar.html

Yeah, Anadikki is closer. It looks like it's misspelled on the GtSA map. Is it spelled Anadikin there? Here is a timeline of from Wesley's Glorantha Site, for anyone who might be more interested in Anadikki as a starting point for adventures.

Looks like there is plenty of adventure in this area.

500: Vesgarings tribe, skilled troll-killers unite the tribes. Build Bregowine's Dyke. Widespread adoption of the falx sword.
621: Rise of Spolites.
653: Vesgarings adopt Spolite ways. "Fight Dark with Gloom."
674: Rise of Adikki tribe, fighting against the Gloom, fall of the Vesgarings. Adikki blessed by Daysenerus(?) (NOT sundomers though).
700: Kitimat, last citadel of the Vesgaring Gloom-Kings falls to King Adikki. Land called Anadikki in honour of the liberators.
824: EWF in Dorastor
830: Anadiki tribes 'conquer' Durnvolk [FS]. Probably sustained heavy raiding. Probably signifies a lowering in Troll troubles (trolls worried about EWF?)
860 Northern half conquered by Carmania
870: Southern half conquered by EWF
890: EWF tries to take Brolia. Constant strife, failed by 900. Brolia home of anti-dragon fanatics.
900: EWF has pushed Carmania out of northern Anadikki.
905: Survilastor Dragonslayer, Carmanian warlord, won battle of Three Dragons Fall. He takes throne as High King of Anadikki and establishes a dynasty. Adopts/modifies/insinuates himself into local religion. Expanded Adikki to be his seat.
1079: Survilsorit War. Melgastor, 8th Survilsorit King reveals Spolite leanings. Anadikki tribes, led by their Hazars rise against him. The king and his priests are slain. Melvorastor, his brother takes the throne.
1105: "Uroxi" Tribes (Baloris) conquer Vanstal.
1120: Broo horde appears. Dragonkill.
