Do fighters have a standardized base size?

GhostRecon

Mongoose
...Or, can I use different bases?

Failing that, is it a requirement that I have precisely 6 fighters for each of my bases or "flights" for my fighters?

Not that I know of, but, they look much cooler fully loaded ;)
Regards,

I'm using squadrons of 3, clustered around the middle of the bases. But then again I've got shedloads to get.

There is no official base size for them - as long as your bases aren't significantly larger/smaller than standard you won't find any complaints.

There's also nothing saying you have to mount six to a base. If for whatever reason you want a different number then go for it. The models are only representative anyway.

except you measure from the edge of the base instead of the centre like with ships... using those hexes makes it hard to mob up on enemy ships with fighters...

Yeah well, we've been making that comment for a while, even when it was center to center still. Triggy is generally right...as long as you don't deviate too far from the fighter base/counter size.

Okay, thanks!

I was thinking of mounting them on GW Infantry Bases, probably 3 per, but I may go out and use GW's small flying bases, or just make my own bases that are roughly ACTA Fighter Base sized.

Works. That is what the heavy fighters are mounted on. I just like the mobbed up look with the six fighters on the hex base. Its just pricy to do it that way.
Regards,

I think the general consensus is that they should be roughly the size of the fighter counters, which is what, a 1" square? Seems a pretty good size to go by.

Mini numbers don't matter. After all, the counters don't even have any models stuck on them. :P

So, if I used 1" square or 1" round bases, I'd be able save quite a bit on $ and still keep the flights looking fairly good...

Would there be much complaint (except that I might be using GW stuff with my Mongoose models)... Many people take the entire Anti-GW too seriously.

No sane person will complain. I plan to use GW round slottabases, the slotless ones, that is, to base my fighters when I get a second fleet. I'll place four models to each base and mount them on wire, set in holes drilled into the bases. In this way I'll have 150% of the flights I would have if I used them in standard configuration, and still have realistic fighter numbers. A flight element of two fighters is the minimum that could really be fielded, so the bases will have two elements on them, and thus be realistic and economical. 8)

There isnt currently any base size standard for ships or fighters though I think there probably should be now that bases CAN make a difference to the game (especially where stealth is concerned...)

I use gw small flight stands, with plastic triangles (thanks to GF9) on top, with the fighters glued to the triangle.

There would be images here, but after an hour of trying I still can't make the #%&%*@$* link from photobucket work!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about the thread necro but I finally figured out what I was doing wrong with linking[/img]

This is what I mean by plastic triangle on a gw stand[/img]

I know, I know. I was going off the picture on the website. I based my milani opposite to the pictures out of personal taste, only to find out mongoose had that mini back to front as well. The new fleet box pictures arn't too bad. Only two flights of frazi going the wrong way.
