Dilgar vs Vorlons

Hey everyone I played a couple vassal games with my buddy last night he plays Dligar and I played Vorlon. First one was 3 point raid and the second was 3 point battle. In both cases he stomped the crud out of me. Now I thought maybe "he's just better then me" but I have faced him on the field of battle with different fleets have defeated him before. But in the 4 games we have played with him being Dilgar and me being Vorlon he completely destroys me. So I guess do other Vorlon players have problems with the Dilgar. He made good use of his scouts but I have a hard time justifying blasting a patrol level when his battle level Tikrit is bearing down on me with his 18ad of DD AP heavy Bolters with scout re-rolls.

It seems to me it is justified if those scouts are giving him rerolls which in turn increase the amount of damage you are receiving. Without rerolls those 18 AD weapons will be much reduced in effectiveness.

Remember the Vorlons don't do well at low levels. You have a unit at skirmish but your best units are battle+. Taking the Dilgar on without your Destroyers and Light Cruisers would be something like a death sentence...

As I have found out. I had 3 destroyers in the 3 pt battle game but i rolled like crap with my beam and he got a couple good crits and finished me quickly. I didn't have a chance. I did destroy one battle level and crippled another but he still had a raid and 4 skirmish untouched after he obliterated 3 of my destroyers.

ps Vassal is pretty awesome if you haven't tried it out yet I highly recommend it!

Try playing at 5 battle and using a Light Cruiser, two Destroyers and two Transports. That should give you enough hitting power to nobble even his bigger ships fairly quickly as long as you concentrate fire, while the Transports can be reasonably sure of taking down any low-level scouts. Especially since the Dilgar scout has no stealth.

At 3 FAP of Raid PL, I'd take a fleet of six Transports (I can't quite justify a Destroyer in the fleet at that size of game).

At 3 FAP of Battle PL, I'd take two Destroyers and four Transports. You need some initiative sinks and also some real firepower. This equates to either two Destroyers or one Light Cruiser (or possible one Destroyer and another four Transports).

Either way, if open for killing, his scouts are high priortity targets. In a Dilgar fleet ships with scout are at their most effective and multiply up the effectiveness of every other ship in the fleet!

Ya the 3 Raid battle I did take 6 transports but with 2 AD i got a whole lot of misses and hes still had 10 ships on the board with 4 dreaded scouts. I will have to think it over and see if I can win the next one. What would you all think of taking fighters in this situation? I thought i might be able to swarm him and hit him a 3 inches with a 1AD of beam.

During the 3 battle I took 3 destroyers

Taking out the Dilgar scouts is indeed top-priority (coming from a Dilgar player). I just can't see how Vorlons can accomplish this, especially if the Dilgar player fields 4 scouts (which is very easy to do unlike most other races).

With the current range of scouts, and terrain not blocking their influence on the battle, scout hunting is not a fast thing under most circumstances. In many cases I don't understand how the vorlons compensate either.

Scouts don't need LOS to get rerolls or lower stealth? Thats interesting....
