Differences between original 2E Core and 2022 Update Core rulebook?

Is this the same book with just a different layout, art and/or maps? Or were there bona fide rule changes or stat changes between the 2 versions?

I found a FAQ for the 2022 Update, but I don’t believe that’s a “change” document between the 2 versions. Looks more like an errata document.

The most obvious changes to me are: new cover, new artwork, new page theme/style, Sindal Subsector chapter removed, Aslan and Vargr character creation added.

Slight, but definitive changes. It's not just a graphical update.
Were the changes ever documented somewhere? I have practically all the books in print (my wallet cries tears every few months), but I’ve misplaced my copy of the 2022 Core book, and I’m wondering how much of a hassle it would be to just use then original 2E Core.

There has been numerous small changes, but I don't think there is an difference document.

I don't think the changes will really impede play.

E.g. Space combat and High Guard has been tweaked, giving different results, but I believe either is playable.

So if I’m current on all the other books it sounds like I should be good.

I never did an eyeball diff, but I did notice that some of the trade tables have differing values. Since the main function of trade is to give the Travellers resources that the referee must find some way of taking away [1], not sure that's a big deal.

[1] Ha ha only serious.

The really big difference was including ship construction rules (at the expense of the Sindal subsector section).
Original 2e expected that if you wanted to build or modify ships you'd get and use High Guard, so all those rules were in once place, which was a change from 1e where basic ship construction was in the core book with High Guard being additional rules.

However strong feedback was that customers wanted things done the 1e way, so it was changed back in the update.

As a core rulebook it's stronger for that.

But if you have the old one it may be more important to get the 2022 High Guard update, as there is more additional stuff in that. Everything in the 2022 core book ship construction section is repeated and consistant in the 2022 High Guard volume.
