Dependencies between Traveller core books

I was working my way through core book 7 Specialist Forces last night, and I'm a bit peeved to find that it seems to have dependencies on material that isn't elsewhere in the numbered core books. From some discussions on discord the received wisdom seems to be that those dependencies are something called the "Mercenary boxed set", which doesn't seem to be issued as a numbered core book.

It would be great to have published somewhere a map of the dependencies between the books, particularly for the numbered core ones.

The dependency on the Merc Box Set is already listed on the Specialist Forces product page. It's mentioned right at the bottom, just above the GPSR General Information statement. It even includes a link to the box set if you hover the mouse in the right position.
