Decados and Li Halan assembly questions

Mongoose
Hello all :) I decided to start off painting the Decados fleet since I think that's what I'll be playing mostly in the end (I keep changing my mind tho.. lol), and my girlfriend wanted to paint and play the Li Halan fleet; so cleaning and assembly has commenced! However, I've run into some... extra pieces.

Both fleets have turrets or possible turrets to glue on, but I don't know where they go! None of the examples I see on the box have glued on turrets that I can see. Here, I have some pictures:

So obviously the Decados fleet, but where do the turrets go? Do they mount to the underside of a ship?

Secondly, I have two bits of metal that were attached to the Li Halan Dragon class Destroyers.. Torpedo Bomber included for scale

Any and all suggestions or slaps upside the head are welcomed and appreciated in this. Thanks all :)

I know the turrets go on top of the destroyer, look for small dimples where the turret's fit into. I don't know about the Li Halan as I have yet to work with them, but I would assumed something similar. Everything I have seen so far that's smaller that a destroyer is in one piece.

The 2 Li - Halan bits are for the stand placement. They attatch underneath behind the main body between the 2 engines.

Ah hah! I found the dimples on the destroyers this morning before heading off to work, but I didn't have much time to check out the Li Halan bits. I'm sure I'll find it with your hint tonight. Thank you both very much for the assistance.

I didn't realize how long it'd take to clean and assemble these things. Though, I bet it becomes better with practice. I've already broken a hobby knife trying to get the fighters off their supports, lol :)

How did you get on with the Decados Lucretia Galliots?

Mine are a tight fit for the bottom section to fit into the top, some filing may be required...

I didn't get to fitting them in last night, but it's one of the first things I'll do this evening. I'll let you know how it goes :)

Has anyone tried assembling the Li Halan destroyers with the flight post running straight into the hull (in a drilled socket, of course) rather than using the attachment? I'm wondering if the center of gravity is close enough for that to work, or if there will be balance problems (ie the ship being tail-heavy) that way.

Try balancing it on a screw head or something else small and flat at the proposed drill location, that will tell you if it works or not...

My experience was the same as yours. I had to file down the edges of the bottom of the joint so it'd be flush to the top. Took quite a bit of filing too..

I got the guns on the destroyers, the bottoms on the galliots, and the base holders on the li halan destroyers. Tonight or tomorrow I start the base coat and then painting shall commence!

Just to clarify, you had to file the bottom of the protuberance from the bottom section of the Galliot?

Yup, that's what needs the filing I think, thanks for the pointer.

I methodically filed down all 4 sides of the rectangular protrusion on top of the bottom piece of the galliot assembly. So, I filed just a bit from all 4 sides of the protruding rectangle, then I'd try to fit the top and bottom of the galliot together. I kept repeating this until they both fit smoothly, if snugly, together. It took a good long while as I was trying to avoid over filing and also trying to avoid filing anything else that would be visible.

I tried to make that as comprehendable as possible, but I know I'm a bit wordy sometimes. Hope it helps! :)

That's perfect kaltorak, I just weanted to be sure, when you're talking about the top and bottom ends of a top and bottom piece, confusion can occur :)

Of course, I completely understand :)

Man... painting is hard, haha. My hands are just too damn shaky, plus I need a smaller pointed brush I think. I picked up a pretty fine brush at the craft store, but even that is too thick especially when I'll need to do the highlighting. I'm sure I'll get better with practice, but I kind of think I should have started with the fleet I liked least. So I could learn on those, haha.

I'm about to get intop detail painting myself so I sympathise, mind you even my paints are revolting, came home this evening found the Skull White had popped open, could have been like that since Sat evening for all Iknow.

But if you learn on your fave fleet, then get betteron the others, just buy another box of your favourites and paint them better and you'll have twice as many of your fave ships to play with :)

Ouch, hopefully it didn't dry out too much. The GW paints are way too expensive. I went with the Folk Art brand from the craft store instead.. only $1.25 USD per 2 oz bottle. So far, so awesome :)

Hmm.. I find your ideas intriguing and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. :)

Does anyone have a photo of the Li Halan Destroyers with the mounting bit attached (the final attachment, that is)? I'd like to see approximately where (and how) they are connected ...

Thanks in advance,

Nah it was OK, the white is too thin anyway too start with.

As for the doubling my fleet. The way I see it, I can spend some money on stripping chemicals (Pinesol/Dettol or equivalent) and then spend some time cleaning off the minis and paint them from scratch. Or buy another fleet, save myself some time and paint them from scratch. Money saved on chemicals, time saved on stripping and twice the ships to play with, plus the option of trying a new paint scheme. I want to try Hawkwood in Red trim sometime.
