Banded Mongoose
Just looked into my water-damaged copy. Gruddamn weather control and damn the Post Office !!!
Lovely colourful book which will start off a shelf full of these sacred volumes.
One probable error on page 05 is the dating of Dredd's frame up for murder in 2101.
Most timelines compiled by Dredd fans use this year as the newspaper date in Mega Times story illustrated by Bolland was 12th October 2101. However as Cal's reign lasted at least 100 days ( as given in the narrative of 'The Day the Law Died' ) and New Year 2102 definately occured in a future strip when Griffin was Chief Judge then a logical interrpretation is that the failed attempt to get Dredd incarcarated on Titan by Cal happened in October 2100 and that Cal finally took over the role of Chief Judge either towards the end of 2100 or just as likely somewhere in the first half of 2101.

My copy of the Judge Dredd Archives Vol 1 arrived today (good old Amazon, starting to show its age, not as fast as it once was  ) and it does look fab and groovy on a quick flick through. I did notice something possibly erroneous though page 41's picture of Chief Judge Hilda Margaret McGruder looks well rather hirsuit and masculine for a lady :) Even with my sketchy knowledge of Dredd I'm fairly sure thats not McGruder.

Problem number 2 is the argument said book has provoked between me and Mrs Crypt Keeper. It went like this.....

Mrs C K: " OMG thats not another game book is it, after the huge pile you bought back from Conception"

C K : " No of course not its a reference book (tricky whistle and fingers crossed behind back)

Mrs C K " Aha you big fibber it says Mongoose on the back ( she has eyes like a hawk  ) and that means game book, I know you too well"

C K " No, no , no....look reference book there are no game stats in it, honest take a look you know what a stat block looks like. Anyhoo its published by Rebellion and Mongoose come under their umbrella :) I can just use it for gaming thats all...... "

It didn't go down well when I said I was going to collect one each month and put them proudly on our main bookshelf either but thems the breaks for marrying a gamer

So Mongoose Matt exactly how would you discribe these books, Reference tome, Gaming book or Bible O' Dredd :?:

Cheers for the book anyways..... :D

Nope, that's McGruder... when she came back from the Cursed Earth for her second term, she'd grown a goatee. Hormonal, rather than genetic damage, one assumes - otherwise she'd have been exiled on a count of Genetic Impurity...

Thanks for the heads up :D

Loved the brand new CJ pictures which had a consistency. Bit puzzled why some original artwork was comissioned which just seemed to be copies of the original iconic strips such as Goodman's assassination whilst the book contained plenty of reprint
Some of the colouring here and there seemed a bit inaccurate as well.

Thoroughly enjoyed this and am collecting the rest.

Only real downer I suppose is that it's already out of date on the Chief Judge front - Martin Sinfield has taken over from Dan Fransisco as of Prog 1667 (Jan 13th 2010 / January 2132), Fransisco having stepped down due to ill-health at least on a temporary basis. Guess that's the difficulty with trying to cover an ongoing story - obvious solution is to keep reading the progs :)

I thought , given, the sparsity of text, it was a shame that a lot of material was reprinted material from D20 material penned years ago which I already have.
For example there was a text on Acc Judge Wethill a D20 creation when there are plenty of in canon Account Judges such as Millet, O'Brian and Winslow from the Prog itself.
Likewise some definate departments and heads were obmitted whilst some speculative department heads were penned.
