Damage Enhancement

I'm not sure I understand how this works.

The text suggests to me that the spell adds 2 points of damage per 10% of the grimoire skill, up to the normal maximum damage possible for the weapon. e.g 8 for a warsword. Is that correct?
If so, what happens if the spell's damage is less than the weapon maximum? Does the spell's damage replace normal weapon damage, or is it not possible to cast the spell on a weapon with higher normal max damage?

What happens if the fellow in the example at 43% casts the spell on a knife (1d3) and a Great axe (1D12+2)?
Sorcerer-in-training wants to know.

Oh, I think I may have just re-engaged my brain.

All the spell does is maximise damage and nothing else. No bonuses.
The sorceror needs to have a good enough Grimoire skill to affect the max weapon damage, or nothing happens. So for a knife he needs a Grimoire skill of 21% and for the Battle Axe 70%.

It's the same concept as say, Fly or Hinder etc.

Remember that it is 2 point for every 10% Grimoire skill so for 1-H Battleaxe you would need Grimoire skill of 31% and 41% for 2-H Battleaxe.

Grimoire skill | Max Damage
1-10 | 2
11-20 | 4
21-30 | 6
31-40 | 8
41-50 | 10
51-60 | 12
61-70 | 14

I got the axes mixed up. I meant Great Axe as in the example in the first post. Didn't prevent me from getting it wrong anyway, of course. ;)
