D20 or own system?

I am certain that if the Goose published a MRQ version of Conan, it would be because they think it would sell. And have some market research to back that up.

Which they, to date, have not done and there is no evidence other than wishful thinking from posters on this forum that they will do in the future. As I've said many times before and on this thread, I for one hope they don't do it. I'll buy a d20 Conan book even if I've got no immediate plans to use it (Trial of Blood, Betrayer of Asgard come to mind). I won't throw down any money for an RQ Conan book. Not a dime. Not a penny. Neither will my 4 players.

Runequest is currently Amazon.com Sales Rank: #783,858 in Books. Conan 2e is currently Amazon.com Sales Rank: #270,982 in Books. If we're talking business models then the sales mean something, and as is Conan 2e is selling far and away better than Runequest.

Conan is a strong license, when RQ is far less famous. I think this is what the sales reflect. Furthermore, we don't know how the system impacts on sales...
These numbers don't prove that Conan is selling better because of its game engine, but rather because it is Conan...

Come on!
Do you really want to compare the sales of ANY RQ book of ANY edition with the sale of ANY d20 (D&D3.0-5) book?
Even now that old d20 is being substitued by 4e those "old" d20 book are more known worldwide than RQ!!
SO, the "Conan element" certainly attracted customers....but I do not think that a Conan RQ would have sold as many copies as Conan d20 did....

I'm sorry for the other 2 pages but this topic is growing at an incredible rate, as usual for the Conan d20 vs (unreal) Conan RQ the topics!

How you plan to use the books if your gaming group splits and you can't get any new players drawn in?

My current experience is that only GMs are buying books, and I've never seen a player refusing to play because the system was not still published...
We are clearly not living in the same world.

Same here. Both new and old players I have gamed with, rely on me for gaming info. Only one of my players in 25+ years of gaming has bought a PHB (AD&D2e), and another one I gave as gift to the same player (D&D3.0 PHB). I suppose I have been lucky all these years :?

Just wanted to add in, I play a game that has been out of print for about 7 years now. While I can still find people it gets harder and harder to do so as time goes by. It is now to the point if we lose anymore i have serious doubts about finding replacements.

Most people I have found are willing to try any game but most want to play a game they can get themselves. Since often reading a game book motivates them to play said game.
