Cults of Glorantha

Bet it doesn't have maps....

It has one map.

But as this is a Cults book (despite the lack of Kyger Litor) are maps, erm, essential?

what i'd like to know is does it have humakt in, really want to play a humakt character in living glorantha, but if isn't in here, then i'll find another use for that money in next months rpg budget

It does.

In fact, two versions...

OK i'll have to ask my local games shop to order a copy for me when i'm there tomorrow.

Thanks for the quick response

Then, why is it still in preorder? We want to start the living campaign. Should I receive it promptly?

I'd imagine that pre-orders will start being fulfilled this week, although I've no idea how quickly you'll receive your copy Gran. Hopefully you won't have too long a wait.

Loz, could you tell us what Malkioni/GL/Brithini churches/schools/orders are in Cults of Glorantha? Pretty please with a sugar on top... ;)

That's weird... a map in a Mongoose book, and no Kyger Litor.

He didn't say it was a good map :!:

(I haven't seen the book, or the map in question, so it might be a good one - though that would be even more shocking than the lack of KL)

And Cults is mine! (bought from Matt at GenCon)

Heck of a lot of Malkioni Cults in it- from Iresavalists (Best combat Grimoire) to those crazy Umalthean Demon Binders.

Also Darriens, but I've got 10 others books to read first!

Nonsense, you must immediately spill the beans on Cults. Other books can wait... ;)

How many cults are covered in the book? I want to get it so that I can use the ideas and concepts to expand the religions in my homebrew setting. Do the cults cover a good variety of cultures and philosophies?

I haven't counted the number of cults in the book, but I think you would find it very useful.

I am still operating on first impressions as I just got it from the friend who picked it up for me at Gencon, but my first impression is: Wow! :D
Even the Introduction chapter and Cult Structure and Format chapter have valuable information. I have started reading it from the beginning, but I have also skimmed it and read some things that caught my eye. The section on HeroQuesting jumped out at me, especially the example HeroQuest.

The book has five chapters covering cults and are generally categorized as follows.

1. Barbarian and Nomad Cults - this is a broad spectrum of cults for Prax, Pent, beast spirit peoples, ancestor cultists, and others. Some of the specific cults include Waha, Eiritha, Storm Bull, Kargzant, Pamalt, Magasta, Foundchild and Hearth Mother.

2. Draconic Cults - this covers draconized divine cults, mysticism, and some other types of cults within the EWF.

3. Invisible God - monotheists who venerate prophets and saints of the Invisible God. There are a lot of Malkioni Sorcery Orders in this chapter. Besides the specific orders, there is a Generic Minor Saint/Sorcery Order to serve as a template for creating your own.

4. Solar Pantheon - these are the gods associated with Yelm.

5. Storm Tribe - these are the gods associated with Orlanth.

Each of these chapters starts off by describing the general cosmology of the "pantheon", some of their shared myths, the culture, the magic and such. Then specific cults are detailed. These include at least one myth, the cult's specific mythos and history, its organization, magic, etc.

There is a chapter titled "Magic". It lists the standard divine spells, has a section about divine spells from allied cults, and the descriptions for new spells introduced in the book. Three new common magic spells. (Hah! I did count something.) There are plenty of new Divine and Sorcery spells.

Ask me what I think in a few weeks when I have had a chance to read through the whole thing. But I have a feeling this book will not disappoint me.

Titus (or other lucky ones), could you reveal some examples of Malkioni cults and grimoires? Malkioni True Church, for example. How does it differ from last edition?

Are there the cults of Aldrya, Mostal or Zorak Zoran, for exemple?

Isn't Zorak Zoran in Races of Glorantha vol.1? I suppose Aldrya and Mostal will be in vol. 2.

There are no non-human cults in CoG, although many of the draconic cults are derivations of the Dragonewt paths. The logical home for non-human cults are the Races volumes.

Yep, even Kyger Litor.
