CRB 1st ed. Spacecraft Design/Armaments/Fire Control & Ammo

Hello all,

I'm going through the CRB 1st ed. Armaments section of the Spacecraft design sequence and gotten myself confused over the fire control requirements for turrets, bays, and fixed mounts. I've searched both my posts and the forum to see if my question has been answered. Unfortunately, my search criteria was not defined enough and returned more results than I could read through.

I have a high confidence there is an answer here and I'll apologies for asking again.

CRB 1st ed. p. 111 provide the rules concerning fire control requirements.

1. The 1 ton on the turret table is the fire control system, right?

2. Do fixed mounted weapons require 1 ton of fire control?

3. Is the bay weapon 1 ton of fire control added separately or is the tonnage part of the bay's tons?

4. Is the missile reload and sandcaster barrel reload tonnage counted as separate tons and cost?

5. Where would the missile and sandcaster reloads be noted on the ship's datasheet?

Yes.

No.

Separately.

Ammunition storage is separate and however much you want to allocate.

Commonly after the weapons section.

Thank you for the helpful answers which brings up the fixed mounts.

In CT a fixed mount, similar to the real world, takes-up the same space as similar turret mounted weapons. In MgT CRB 1st ed. Spacecraft Design fixed mounts appear to be another item that gets away with out taking space a way from the cargo capacity.

Unfortunately, the only example of fixed mounted weapons in CRB 1st ed. PDF update from 01/18/16 is the 10-ton Light fighter on pp. 134 and 136 which are not much help. The deck plan, p. 134, for the 10 fighter has a "belly turret" while the datasheet on p. 136 has the notation of fixed mount.

I discovered, while looking through them again, that one of my 2008-2014 posts did ask about fixed mounts unfortunately the reply does not match the answer I got to "2. Do fixed mounted weapons require 1 ton of fire control?" and I was directed to MgT HG 1st ed. In the post I also mentioned that I'd checked in HG 1st ed., Fighting Ships, and Traders and Gunboats.

MgT HG 1st. ed. p. 95 has what appears to be the same 10-ton light fighter as in CRB 1st ed., unfortunately the prices do not match.

MgT HG 1st ed. I p. 61 Small Craft Design/Armaments has the following entry

One ton of fire control equipment must be installed for each turret or fixed mount (see page 111 of the Traveller main rulebook). Anti–personnel weapons do not need to be placed in turrets – instead, they are mounted on the external surface of the craft. One turret is required per three weapons carried.

The entry appears to indicate that the CRB 1st ed. rule set was modified to indicate that one ton of space designated as fire control is required by all non-bay mounted weapons.

Does the HG 1st ed. fire control entry update the CRB 1st. ed. Spacecraft Design rule?

The small craft design rules where done for High Guard, so the small craft found in the Core Rulebook where updated and included in High Guard.

Yup, High Guard contains a number of updates to the stuff found in the Core Rulebook. So yes, if you are using High Guard rather then just the Core Rulebook fixed mounts need 1 ton of fire control.

Thank you AndrewW for confirming I am finally on the right track. Now if my ISP ever gets my Email service working again I'll see the reply.
