How does corruption work?
Is it a sorcery thing or for all?
How do i use corruption?
Like in vampire the masqurade the players lost humanity when they did something horrific and inhuman. Like torturing or killing in cold blood.

Thx

Let me guess, you are new to Conan? ^^
In a nutshell to give you some basic understanding:

The two main reasons for Corruption are:
- peaceful contact with a Demon or similar being (even a very corrupt Sorcerer). Like in a Demonic Pact, but also any other contact except: attacking the being, fleeing from the demon, or forcing the demon to do your will (as per Master Words and Signs or Summon Demon).
- finding/touching a magically tainted treasure. Which is the case for many treasures, especially in ancient ruins.

When such a trigger applies, you have to make a Corruption save. If you fail the save, you gain 1 point of Corruption. Every point of Corruption you have applies as penalty for future Corruption save, so once you gain the first Cor point, you are more likely to fail future tests.

If you MAKE the save, however, a Sorcerer (and only a Sorcerer) runs the risk of becoming insane. So it's kind of "damned if you do, damned if you don't". You have the chance to save against insanity as well, but of course your risk of becoming corrupted or mad is doubled.

The first few points of Corruption make you a cynical bastard that doesn't give a shit about life or honour. That's because you become aware of the evil powers that threaten the world and you don't see how anything could counter these.
Then from some point on, Corruption really kicks in and transforms your body. First some subtle signs, like bumps on the temples.
The final step is that the transformation breaks through and you morph into some semi-demonic beast, and are possibly also possessed by a demon.

Corruption is _not_ triggered by atrocities like torture or human sacrifices. Though you could house-rule that vile stuff like that can cause Corruption to a certain degree (i.e. up to the first step I described, but not further).

Yes Im new to Conan. Very new!
And why I ask so basic questions.

So a plyr makes a will save against corruption.
If he fails he gets 1 corruption point.
Next time he has to make a will save against corruption-Its WILL plus d20 minus 1 corruption point?

Thx for reply:)
Didn't think I was gonna get any for such a basic question:)
Im new to Conan but far from new to RPG:)
And also new to the world of storytelling!

Any tips for a new "Conan" storyteller?

Yep, you will also find that most of the people on this board have several points in Corruption (henice the name "ClovenHoof")... so all of them can explain that weird itch that just doesnt seem to go away....

Welcome to the Boards

You will find corruption to be vary sweet! If you build up you corruption, you can learn how to be a Debaucher (a feat from The Scrolls of Skelos) like the rest of us!

Yes! Now have some lotus wine and watch as we put some virgin slave-girls on flesh-hooks and we can start the blood-orgy! (as part of the Debaucher feat, I get some extra Power Point for corrupting young-bloods with lotus doped orgies of pain, pleasure and sensuality )

Vincent Darlage's concept of Debaucher feat was absolutely brilliant.
Why kill vigins when you can "impale" them with something else and get magic power.
Debaucher feat is such a great feat for small isolated village shamans that might not have the resources to acquire fresh virgins all the time.
Absolutely love it.

Yeah, you just have to hate how the local Shamans R Us, and WhooDoo VooDoo Quick Marts are always low on "Fresh Virgins"... They can never seem to keep enough on the shelf for some reason....

"You know, that Volcano God only accepts Virgin sacrifices... And, well... I can cure the first part of that, so you don't become the second."

What if you casted Permanacy on the Virgin? or you made her a Immortal.... like a lich, but still a virgin.... TECHNICALLY that should count right?

Hmm... no I would not hit that. :?

The whole virgin thing is more of a symbolic thing. Besides you only get the power points when they expire right?

< Barbarian >"They're... They're WASTING THE VIRGINS! You can do so many things with them! Well, OK, one thing then they're no longer Virgins, but it's *SO* FUN!!!"< /Barbarian >

oh, being that in not EVIL I have know Idea what you evil do'ers do at your little cult meetings... I just tend to always show up with my "party" and kill you guys before you drive that weird wicked looking dagger in to some poor virgin girls heart.... AND I GET PAID FOR IT!

Well Teacher, "heart" and "dagger" are realitive terms, keeping it safe for the PG rating... plus its good money as a adventure keeping Vestal Virgins "Vestal" and "Virgins". LOL Think monte Python Hoil Grail, when everyone wants to be punished for being "bad" :P

Yes, corruption comes as a penalty to corruption saves, leading in to a downward spiral. Remember that if a character has a corruption point(s) and succeeds in save vs corruption, he is required to take immediately new will save vs. insanity. Remember as well that intact code of honor gives +6 vs corruption.

I'm actually having a bit of a problem with corruption in my current campaign, as all except one character have at least one point by now. I guess they are turning in to a group of villains instead of heroes, heh. That what you get for going to Stygia and losing codes of honor on the way. The line is pretty thin in Hyboria anyway.

If they want to avoid that fate, remind them that they can atone by sacrificing Fate Points. IIRC each FP cancels out one point of Corruption.
