[CONAN] Tumble

Does anybody have a problem with the Tumble skill? It doesn't seem to fit the Conan universe at all. You've got a Daryl-Hannah-Type-In-Blade-Runner come flopping your way, doing the cheerleader thing, and you can't touch her with an Attack of Opportunity as you moves through your square?

If her skill is high enough, she can overcome the armor penalty and tumble right by you in armor, albeit light armor. Daryl wore a leotard.

And what about her equipment? Are her daggers tied to their scabbards? Do her belt pouches jingle, make a lot of noise, and flap back and forth beating her in the gut and groin?

It seems to me that the GM should be very strict on this skill and its use, limiting what the chartacter carries (even more than the weight limitations--an almost empty backback would seem to screw one up).

What do you think?

I think your too locked on to one specific interpretation of what tumble is. Sure it can be backflips/frontflips, but in combat it any athleticism used to get you from point A to point B. It's a powerslide to keep yourself down low, its a spinning little dance to make your opponent zig while you zag, and it can even be a pole vault with a halberd to sail over the air to get you past your opponent. Heck, barbarians/pirates/nomads get improved mobility at level 10, which allows them to do this without the need of a tumble check. Greater Mobility allows them to move their full action, use all of their attacks, and create no attacks of opportunity. The tumble skill comes nowhere near letting someone do that.

Unless you have the Dance of Blades feat (Warrior's Companion) which lets you move and full attack while tumbling.

Requires a feat tax, skill tax, has a high tumble DC and you still move only at half speed. Still inferior compared to Greater Mobility, but my "Daryl-Hannah-Type-In-Blade-Runner" character will take it.
