Conan the Traveller?

First off: Traveller Open Playtest! :D :D :D Yattaaaaa! I love this company! Thankyou so much! :D :D :D

I love comparing systems, and I'm curious about how much intercompatibilty could be legally allowed between Mongoose products.

The Mongoose Traveller chargen system is, as hinted in the blogs, really good and a fun game in itself. Is it legally tied to Traveller only, or is there any chance of some official applications of this to other Mongoose games? [yeah, I know it's easy enough to DIY, but like using prefab adventures, it's a timesaver and Mongoose have some great writers].

I'd particularly like to see a Conan d20 version [1 "term" = 1 level].

I haven't looked at the whole playtest document yet, so I don't know if the rest of the system might work well for Conan too [and I guess the licencing precludes a Conan supplement anyway, as per RQ].

What do other folk think? Would the Mongoose bloodline be strengthened by a bit of inbreeding, or just produce drooling chinless six-thumbed degenerates?

Conan is Conan, and has

(1) little or nothing to do with Traveller, either in setting or ruleset,
(2) appears to have a strong, dedicated fanbase,
(3) is apparently very popular with Mongoose itself.

So, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Traveller has serious incompatabilities with low-tech settings. It's just not geared for it.

That's not to say I wouldn't like to see some sort of adaptation, but I think it would have a hard time catching on, and in the end not be worth the effort.

Sorry, wrong about incompatibilities. Points 2 & 3 are valid, 1 is meaningless, and the unnumbered 4th is totally bogus.

Classic traveller runs just fine as a fantasy game. TNE does as well. MT, not quite so well, as melee weapons are too undifferentiated.

Come up with a Magic System for Traveller, or use a variation of the given PSIONICS rule and you could easily run a low tech, D&D or Conan style game with the Traveller rules.
