well, I did it. Instead of buying Battlefield Evo, I bought the last of the GMC1 line that I didn't own. Why, you say, that's madness!!!

My reasoning is thus - sales per my favorite e-distributor are low. Only a matter of time before they pull the plug on it. I had about half the minis, and figured this was time to buy the rest before they discontinued them. At the moment, can't say I trust MP to support the game. Since it's one of my favorites, I wanted to get it before they posted an end to it. Also, this way I can still demo it in good faith and recommend where to buy it.

a bunch of the figs are really outstanding, too. The fattie, vid vulture, street lawyer, robots, undercity and gorilla gang boxes, et al.

Yeah, it's a shame...

I own ACTA, SST and GoMC1 (plus a massive amount of RPG books).
The fact that I just listed them in "growing fun order" just shows that sometimes the game with the largest number of "followers" is not necessarilly the best in the catalogue...

GoMC1 got me to discover the 2000AD universe and paper terrains (cardstock modelling by Worldworks games).
It is the wargame that provides me with the most amount of fun during the fights, between the fights (my gangs live I tell ya!) and while preparing the next fight.

But the are some things in MGP's marketting strategy that I just don't understand (or rather "that I do understand because of the economically sound reasonning behind them but that I don't see as compatible with the 'mental image' I had of the Mongoose").
On the one hand, they tell you that they don't want to become like the "evil empire" and on the other hand, they copy some of GW's worst habits, like:
* publish a game and drop support (except for the odd article in S&P) for it as soon as the hype is gone (as is the case with GoMC1)
* if a game sells rather well, just make another version of it (SST EVO anyone?) to force the customer to buy even more stuff
* disregard for the old saying "if it aint broke, don't fix it" (SST EVO, ACTA V2?)
* let's not talk about "pre-painted minis of the highest quality standarts".

I was a major fan of MGP, but lately I just just feel that there is a transformation going on that I dislike quite strongly.

Rant over... needed to vent a bit... sorry!

So, I'll try to get all the figs of the GoMC1 range (some of which I consider as Mongoose's best figs yet) and try to continue promoting this game around me (I managed to convert about 6 people to it in a country where the only known reference to Judge Dredd is the movie).
