OK, been almost 2 years in the making and heres what I got so far done.

My Bug Army
gallery_2_2_23900.jpg

I still have 20 more Warrior Bugs and a King Tanker to assemble. Just putting the finishing touches on my Ripplers (need to finish the wings and bases).

When I played out my Fort Apache scenario last summer, I realized, I just don't have enough bugs! So I scrounged around some more and found some pretty cheap and accumulated more Warrior bugs.

I'll get some more pics of my Mobile Infantry and Skinnies and I dig them out and finish them. Also more close ups of the bugs. Our site got hacked last week and so we've got to reload the gallery again. However I just got a new camera and hope to get lots of pics of my collection posted.

Very nice force. Lots of Warriors, I like that. I know I've seen your handle on some auctions we've both bid in on.

I'm inventorying my own Arachnid army in the coming days so I'll post another topic. I've actually been shedding stuff to my local crew because a)I have too much and not enough time and b) my local friends get a good deal from me so we can build up a collectively large amount of stuff that has a better chance at getting painted and played with.

very very nice, id like to see some close ups on the ripplers and the blister/blasters... and your spiders.... very few pics of people's spider bugs.

Awesome. The amount of gourse that must have went into that.

It must be a pain in the anus to write an army list.

Thanks guys!

I'll have some close-ups up in a few days or so. I'd like to finish my Ripplers before I complete them. Fortunately I've had some medical leave this past few weeks and got to build and paint lots of bugs then. Bugs are pretty easy to paint when you're on pain killers.

Hopefully, next time I lay out my fortress, I'll have a wall of "Black Death" to surround it. Last year the bugs looked a bit "spread thin" and I said to myself "I need more bugs, must make this look like Whiskey Outpost in the movie".

OK here's a few close ups.

thats all very nice... yours are the first spider bugs ive actually liked!

its also nice how you extended the warrior theme to more bugs...

hmmm I wonder how it would look on hoppers...

Finished my entire Skinnie Army last week!

Well I decided to keep with the retro 50s look of the Skinnies and go with bright and metallic colors. Furthermore I color coded each unit to a different color scheme as well as each weapon type (as there's a mix of old style and new style weapons) to avoid confusion.

Thanks!

Suprisingly I'd have to say after painting up, some of my favorites were the original pewter Raider & Militia models. Aside from the few casting issues I had and the dorky looking weapons, these guys looked very threatening after painting them up.

The plastic Raiders looked pretty good too, and now I wish I hadn't glued their faceplates on. Well at least I used some mild adhesive (Testors Crystal Clear Canopie Glue) which should peel off. Really dosn't make sense to have only half of my army with faceplates. I'll probably end up taking them off. The Raiders were done with Testors Dark Green Metallic over a black undercoat with Vallejo Game Colors Somber Grey.

The Guards were some of my biggest disapointments. The photos looked good, and I had some high hopes for them despite the poor artwork in the book. However, the models were not all that great and I had lots of casting flaws with them (most of which I didn't realize until I started painting them). However, I liked the color scheme I worked out with them and aside from some of the now obvious casting flaws I like the way they look. I used Reaper Red Metallic and Gold for them.

The Elite Guards were a pleasant suprise after painting. At first I sort of liked them, then when I got the models I sort of didn't like them. Then when I started painting them I started liking them again as I was experimenting with colors. Unfortunately, I ran across a few casting flaws while painting them again. I used Reaper Sparkling Amethyst and highlighted by mixing some Reaper Metallic Frost. Then applying an inkwash using Citadel Purple Ink and Future Floor Wax.

I had a similar love/hate/love reaction with the Soldiers. I really played around with some earth colors yet stuck with the metallic look. I started with Reaper Scorched Metal and highlighted with some Vallejo Oily Steel.

Slaves were the last to do and probably the least enjoyable. As they were not so alien, I really didn't get to have the fun 'experimenting' and since they were pretty poor sculpts I was loosing interest fast and just wanting to 'get these done and off my table'. In the end I sort of liked the two different sculpts with the fully helmeted guy. There others were pretty crappy.

Since there was so much variation in weapon styles and the weapons just seemed so 'alien' anyways I figured it would work best to color code the weapons.

Constrictor Weapons were Reaper Coppery Red and Adamantium Black
Neural Beamers were Reaper Green Steel with Vallejo Flourescent Green details
Boneshard Weapons were Vallejo Game Colors Tinny Tin
