Cheap imports/ebay, good for the hobby?

LGS stack what sells. Unfortunately B5 is not a big seller for my LGS,so I am forced to buy from online if I want it any time soon. I realize that stock on a shelf is money that is tied up. If a LGS wants to get your business then stock games other than WH, 40K, or Warmachine.

no gaming stores near me.... and i`m not heading all the way too Belfast just to find they dont have what i want ( unless i switch to GW...... NEVER!! ).

work and real life prevents me from gaming at all these days so i just collect the minis from time to time.

If a LGS wants to get your business then stock games other than WH, 40K, or Warmachine.

If they get profits they likely will. If it's causing loss why would they? They probably aren't rich enough to sell stuff on loss...

Miniature gaming isn't the only thing this is happening to. Its already happened in the past with the RC racing hobby. All of the racing hobbyists started buying their product off of the internet becasue the online retailers could afford to sell product at a lower price.
However, Most of the tracks people raced their RC cars at and places that sponsored big races were local retailers - when the retailers couldn't compete with prices they stopped selling RC product, and some went out of business - others switched to selling different product and the tracks were used for other things. When the tracks went away, people stopped buying RC altogether.

gaming is doing the same thing, but only the stores that are big enough to sell a wide variety of product and in large areas areable to compete, and thus remain well off. Fortunately, they aren't dependant on Large areas the way racers were - you often are able to game at home. Myself, I find its easier to organize bigger games at retail outlets and so most of my purchases are form there first.

thats because AoG went out of business a couple of years ago

they been gone several years now... but the person selling the minins from the old aog website bought up lots of surplus stock minins from shops that were lumbered with them after aog crashed and has been selling them since.... Bruce now works for Mongoose by the way (or he did last time i heard).

last purchase i made form him must be near 2 years ago and was £200 worth of Fleet Action and B5Wars minis.. took 4-6 weeks to arrive.

Cool - I'm living in Bangor, but I have a group that meets up in Lisburn to play games. Myself and thePirv play Acta from time to time. Replay games in Bangor is good for GW stuff and other gaming goodness - not so much other minis tho. T Shirt Heroes in Ards does some good ranges of minis, like Infinity and Confrontation.

The shop in Belfast was Unite all Action Gaming, or something like that, in Smithfield.

Abraxas I STILL wouldnt panic just yet, I've had stuff take AGES from AoG in the past though admittedly I havent ordered anything in a while off them. And Valen yes they are out of bussiness but their shop site is still live selling off old stock. They do SAY they are out of business and explain things there by the way.

It's the one on the purchase site (not the AoG home page).

I just think 3 months is pushing it... especially for such a small order (3 blisters).

I know I'm selfish for always bringing this up... it's just I'm afraid I am doing something wrong... and I hate just throwing $30 into the wind.

See I couldn't agree more with a lot of you. What kills the hobby is how people want to save a buck. Granted I am guilty of this as well but you know what I would rather spend the extra dollar to keep MP going and this also applies for the stores involved in all these hobbies. I am a person in pursuit of my own store. I have been scouting locations for months and months but I will not open one for a while. The internet kills business and all these kids that play don't understand what it means to "support your local gaming store."

Its a sad state of things....

The two things that gaming can't do without are the gamers and the producers of the games.

Now no matter where you buy your stuff from you are a gamer.

To a muchness, no matter where you buy your stuff from on the 'new' market, the company gets the same money for it. If you're buying second hand then it just spreads the enjoyment of the game.
