Character Creation Question

If you take a per-career option like university or academy. Then go in a your first "real career: do you still get basic training in those careers?

Yes, University is listed a a pre-career event, so when you get to your career you would get the basic training.

The military academy gives you all the service branch skills at level 0, and if you actually enter that branch as your following term you increase 3 of those skills to level 1.

Seth Skorkowsky did a youtube video of character creation and covers time spent in university, and gives a good overview of making a character. It is a video worth watching.

Both academy and university are per-career events. as you put it. and i see the logic academy not get it but the 3 level 1 skills increase is a graduation benefit. On page 16 of the MRB "Basic Training: For your first career only, you get all the skills listed in the Service Skills table at Level 0 as your basic training. For any subsequent careers, you may pick any one skill listed in the Service Skills table at Level 0 as your basic training." With academy as a per-career and the other being a graduation benefit and basic training being based on first career it read as if they would get it. I watch Seth Video on it and this question is not addressed but a good video.

Just remember that you DON'T count University /Academy time for muster out benefits but you DO count the term for aging rolls.

At the ten minute mark of the video the character being created goes into law enforcement after going to university (but failing to graduate).
The character gets all the Service skills at level 0 since it is their first career. When rolling for the Agent career there is no -1 DM for a previous career, so University does not count as a career in that regard as well.

So, if someone made a really expansive cheat sheet covering character creation in traveller with all the basic and optional rules, survival, mishap, muster out and other tables in a form of a website with hyperlinks... how dinky would Mongoose be about such a thing?
I mean its definitely useful for running the chargen for that someone, despite not being 100% finished yet, but people can be real jerks about copyright laws they have poor understanding of.
Should something like that be made presentable and shared, of keep to to someoneself?

If you join an academy then you go through basic training. In my opinion that means that, if you join the linked service, you skip basic training and go into the career proper.
