Yes, some of the stuff that was put in the High Technology chapter was done so on orders from above.

The idea is to keep all the ship construction stuff within the same book.
 
Be careful what you wish for.

There is stuff that hasn't made it into to the High Technology chapter yet.

Stuff like Warp-drives are alternative tech for alternative settings. They are not available in Traveller, but are standard in 2300. This should be clearly stated.

And yet it is baseline technology in T5...

I know and I corrected that statement above in that the collectors in T5 are massively different than the one we have here. The T5 collector limits you to Jump 1 at TL14, Jump 2 at TL15. This collector is "woohoo free fuel for whatever jump". So - High Technology.

Plasma Turret and Fusion Guns where in the Original HG. Can't see the logic of them being shunted into here.. especially as man portable versions exist too and a what about PGMP starting at TL12 whereas a plasma turret is TL11..? But it does tidy that turret table up a bit..

T5 has Plasma as barbettes only, not Turret based weapons. This is the same for Fusion weapons.

So lets add more stuff! Like Repulsors. White Globes. Jump Projectors (in Mega Traveller TL20?) Disintegrators (Megatraveller)
SciFi has a mass of other things you could add if you want it in your game.

All these are above TL15 as you've pointed out - so I'm not disagreeing that they shouldn't be in High Technology - just no reason to call them Alternate Technology.

All in all - the chapter is a mix of High and Alternate Technology and I'm definitely in favour of adding more. I'm glad matt is closing off high guard but NOT this chapter yet.

Nothing here says: This must be banned in Traveller, or the basic assumptions of the campaign will break down.
