Changes. New things. Revisions. Reimaginings.

Trolls! I mean anything that is decended from a pig cannot be honourable or brave...

[Stands and takes the backlash like no troll ever would.]

I want to take the time to thank the hell out of everyone who has posted here so far. I feel purged, almost, and definitely refreshed.

It feels suddenly like there's a lot more common ground between us all, or something. Not sure I can quite put it into words.

I'm also unsure of how much time I can spend yakking here but I do try and respond to my emails with a relatively nippy turnaround. If anyone ever needs to bend my ear about something, you can get hold of me at deadblueclown ( at ) hotmail.co.uk

Not that I envision anyone needed me for anything vital or hellishly exciting, but the option is there. : )

To DBC:

Don´t take negative feedback to serious.
When a fan of Glorantha tells you that x is wrong, and y is not canon, and z can´t be, because of what-ever... don´t feel bad about it.
It is the same with a lot of other fanatics (i read a german language Star Wars forum, and you can´t imagine how fanatic THIS is):
No matter how good a text (article, chapter or whole book) is, the fan will spot the discepancies and "wrong" parts of it, and will tell everybody about it... if they are interested, or not. :-)
But that doesn´t make us (yes i am guilty, i am a fan, and i also nitpick) fans bad people.
Myself, for instance: I LOVE Robin Laws GLORANTHA - THE SECOND AGE (and the Ralios PDF), but the first thing to mention to someone who has bought the book is Balazar and Caladra and Aurelion. This is NOT because i want to hurt Mongoose, RuneQuest or Glorantha, but it is to correct the wrong details in the understanding of canon. If everybody knows that these minor things in the book are wrong (at least until a revised second edition appears :-) ) no harm was done. If MRQ players establish their own canon with their own Balazar and Caladra and Aurelion, THEN the glorantha community will be hurt, because this will separate the gloranthan fans into two camps.
I don´t want to see that happen.
I accept all the new things MRQ will bring to glorantha, but established facts, have to stay established facts, unless the changed fact is explained in the background of glorantha itself (invented by GodLearners, Draconic Lore, Arkats Book of Secrets, etc.).

Until now only ONE Glorantha book for MRQ was published (RQ Monsters is a generic monster book including 80% which can be used also or primarily on Glorantha, but the illustrations cry: generic fantasy; but this is a good thing), and i LOVE it, and i am looking forward to see more.

Go will the Uz!

By the Way: Will Mongoose publish a Troll Ball Team miniature set? :-)

Cheers

Hmm. I've always considered ZZ, the deity, as a big bully. He swaggers around, beating people up and doing bad things (killing Flamal, eating all the vegetation, messing Yelmalio up) but when things go badly, he generally runs away crying. So, yes, as a god he is a bit of a wimp, and deservedly so.

Zorak Zorani, on the other hand, are big, bad and hang around in berserking gangs. Their idea of tactics is a full-on charge, which I fully approve of by the way. They are sometimes sneaky and underhand, but I wouldn't give them a lot of sneaky tactics.

This is pretty much the way I see it, too.

Sure. This works for me as it is the way I've always felt the Zorak Zorani operated. But they are not, as seemed to be implied, wimps. I don't really feel that Zorak Zoran himself is a coward/wimp. But again, this is merely my opinion.

My impression of Uz is that in general, they all rely on sneaky tactics and ambushes and psychological terror tactics: they're creatures of the night and skilled hunters, so when fighting humans they'll play to those advantages.

The Zorak Zorani are probably the most direct and straightforward of the trolls: they're the ones who go into a berzerk frenzy and charge headlong at the enemy lines, shielded by their trollkin and zombies. However, even a troll berserker is probably sneaky by human standards, and would have plenty of hiding and ambushing skills.

But turning Zorak Zoran cultists into troll ninja would be completely the wrong approach IMO...

(Incidentally, shouldn't someone based in Liverpool be calling him ZedZed, not ZeeZee?)

You got that, from this?

War isn't always about noble battles and great duels at the heads of armies. It's also about snipers, ambushes, slaughtering helpless innocents and relatives to strike fear into the hearts of the enemy and crush morale, striking while enemy troops are unprepared, and so on. I'm playing these aspects of Zorak Zoran (and his followers) up a great deal.

So while ol' Zeez might not be able to go toe to toe with God-Emperor Yelm in a fistfight, you can bet your best socks that his followers are the cunningest, ambushiest, violentest, ruthlessest, fear-strikingest, get-the-job-done badasses out there.

Or from someone else?

Zorak Zorani ARE ALLWimps!

I have bested many in personal combat.

It is their damn trollkin I have to watch out for.

I didn't see that part. I saw this part:

This is something I'm very keen on addressing, especially since ZeeZee is coming up in what I'm writing right now. Essentially, as presented in previous times, he can seem a bit of a...well, a wimp. And for a God of War, that's not particularly the angle I'm hoping to convey. (At least not from the troll POV - the God Learners can think whatever they like; they'll never agree with each other on it anyway.)

Which is why I thought "bwah?"

Had I seen the first quote (which until now, I have not) I'd have said, "Spot On, Dude!" So I shall say it now:

"Spot on, Dude."

Better?

I was freaking out, there. I was thinking "Argh! What did I say? Where is it??" and scrolling all over the place looking for the moment I'd clearly lost my mind.

Incidentally, I've got both Cults books open in other windows right now. I ever tell you that I hate you for converting and creating all the coolest spells imaginable?

I haven't said that yet?

Ah, allow me to do it now. : )

Whew! Well, you do have a way with words. Very visceral feel to that quote. I think its very appropriate given the subject matter!

Thank you! I really have no idea if anyone at Mongoose actually liked it. Hopefully it didn't make work on "Magic" too difficult. It was an honour to work on the project. I had a blast.

Voriof

P.S. Sorry it turned into two books. But there was just so much coolness.... I didn't know how to stop.
