Change of Name.

Standing-Stone

Banded Mongoose
For a moment there, I thought 'Judge Dredd & Slaine' had been withdrawn.

Perhaps for reasons relating to their being merged with 'RuneQuest'.

Come to think about it. I 'm not so sure about 'Judge Dredd' being converted to Runequest.

I'm not sure that 'Runequest' Dredd wouldn't make sence as I think Runequest is more of archaic fantacy setting better suited to Slaine.

Will there, be another 'Judge Dredd' game.

There is no reason why an adapted RuneQuest system would not fit Dredd's world. BRP has produced a C20th game in Call of Cthulhu, and MRQ is a descendent of BRP. Also the original Dredd used a percentile system (similar to WHFRP). I played Dredd back in the day using a merged RQ2/GWDredd system, and it worked very well indeed.

Any new Dredd would be based around SpaceQuest, of course.

Not that I'm too famiaer with the RuneQuest system myself and you may be right. It's just that even the name 'RuneQuest' doesn't really fit the future setting of Mega City One. I think name should suggest the right genre. I might be alittle reluctant to buy Runequest Dredd for this reason alone.

But thats just my opinion.

How about "Dredd Vs. MegaCityOne".

Oh, wait, that's the regular comic. :P

Dredd Versus Batman was a nice series from what I've been able to get my hands on. Vesus Aliens and Versus Predator were also good.

But does the change in name for the forum hint that we may be seeing more 2000ad rpgs?
Nemisis the Warlock?
Rogue Trooper?
Halo Jones?
Dan Dare????

It has been mentioned before that Mongoose has the licence for Nemesis the Warlock, so maybe we will see that as a Spacequest RPG.

Personally I just want to see more Dredd material, although a MRQ version could help as it's sort of halfway back towards the percentile system which may suit it better than the d20 version which for it's time was good, but now the d20 exodus has begun and rumours of D&D 4thEdt won't help.

I also think they should really take the opportunity to bring out a standalone (but Dredd compatible) sourcebook for Strontium Dog as Johnny has made a few appearences in the Big Meg over the years.

Though my preference is Dredd, becuase I love the procedural future cop aspect and know Mega City One so well, and find writing for Dredd games too be completly natural and easy, SD has to be the most obvious choice for an RPG and I'm surprised it has never been done commercially.

The set-ups are always pretty much, 'Bring this guy in, dead or alive, for this amount of money' and from there you can just let your imagination run riot - big guns, time travel, time weapons, cool mutations, crap mutations, a whole universe to explore, and fat paychecks (tempered with hugely expensive cool weaponry for the players to spend thier hard earned creds on)

Throw in liberal amounts of anti-mutie prejudice to flesh things out and you have a game just screaming to be played, even if you don't know the comic the set-up is so simple it's brilliant - you can have whatever kind of game you like.

I reckon, given the right push, SD would appeal to a huge audience - probably much bigger than Dredd.

But still, I want more Dredd :>
