Centauri Tactics and other races

So far I've been having lots of success with my Primus etc up the middle saying come get me backed up by the Maximus for close in fire power while the Vorchans etc outflank and strike hard and then withdraw to hit again. The primus is such a threat it can't be ignored and this has set up for the picking off shots with a Vorchan rush.

How about the rest of you and other fleets.
Do you find there are any particular characteristics to running different kinds of fleets?

i've never played centauri but i think thereare two types of centauri ships, those which sit in the middle of the battle firing at everything around them, and others which for squadrons and skirt round the edges picking ships off. but dont rely on what i just said :)

That's exactly what I've found. A lot of the ships are just fantastic plonk in the middle of the melee lobbing shots in all directions while fast squads of ships with frontal armament zoom in and out ambushing enemies. Its been working fantastic so far. Even against shadows. Also suits the race with stately leaders in battleships and young hotshot noblemen out in Vorchans etc trying to make a name for themselves with pack kills.

Most of us Centauri players tend stay away from the Vorchan in it's current form as why take them when you can get 1 raid ship for 2 Vorchans. Vorchans can work when they are one of the big boys eg Patrol games, depending on your foe in larger games they just die a little easy. Instead of flanking with Vorchans use Dargan ( bit slower but won't die as easy & has a couple flights). In typical 5 raid lvl game the Fleet will
1 Primus/ Variant
2 Raid lvl ship with Beam
3 Corvans
Known as the Beam Team, personaly use the Sulust ( slightly too many hits & looks awesome. It's bit boring but gets the job done.
Stay away from Havens & Kutai's as they are just plain awful.

My present fleet list for 5 pt Raid is

Primus or Tertius
Magnus
Maxmius, 2 X Corvan
Maximus, 2 x Corvan

Been in too many games where I can't see the Minbari! Oh and I make sure that my Corvans can shoot as well as Scout, they have good guns for their size and its all round..My choices may alos be influenced by having to have all round fire against Shadow Scouts! :D

No one suggested the cheese???

Or you could have two Tertius-class battlecruisers and a Prefect-class armoured cruiser. Make you feel better?

Another fun fleet is the 6 Maximus/1 Secundus 'Wrecking Crew' - every weapon is twin-linked, you have universal hull 6 and interceptors and plenty of flak weapons - it's one of the best close-range brawling fleets out there. Power up to all ahead full and shove down opponent's throat with one or two Maximus manouvring to shield the battlecruiser from the worst of the long-ranged fire. And not a battle laser in sight!
