Casting/molding questions

Not the best, but not the worst I have seen (Mongoose tend to have quite good quality products IMHO)

Problem is that some moulding processes (i.e. the ones most often used for mini’s) often do leave flashing / pits / defects. Other moulding processes do provide better quality castings - however to produce the moulds and purchase the equipment is currently cost prohibitive.

One advantage of resin is that the process does allow for higher quality casting providing better fine detail.

So this is to be expected of pewter figs, and I need to sit down, shut up and be grateful for the really clean ones I do get?

Depends on how bad the flaws are - Sometimes it is just cleaning, sometimes more (filling, sculpting, etc) - sometime you have to send them back. The quality of metal casting is a lot better than it was.

If you do have an issue with the quality of the castings - contact Mongoose http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/contact.htm
