Ask MongooseMatt ANYTHING!!!

Okay, not really anything, but when we post questions about the rules or potential typos in the feedback area, we often don't receive a response, so I'm creating this thread in the hopes of getting some response to questions we have, even if it is "we're looking at that" or some such.

I'll kick this off with a question I posted a few days ago. The emergency low berths in High Guard 2022 Update are listed at MC1 a pop. Seems real pricy since Mongoose 1e and all the previous versions of Traveller we checked had it being KCr100. In Mongoose 1e, it was listed as MCr.1 and we suspect a typo. Can we get some clartity on that so we can update the starship build sheet to reflect what we suspect if we're right? Thanks.

Also, allow me to suggest that adding KCr, BCr (or GCr to please @Geir), and TCr to your repertoire would be really helpful and would minimize the complaints about not having comma separation in your big numbers, too.

And sorry for all the wild AMA questions you're about to get @MongooseMatt. ;)

Does Mongoose Publishing have Gift Certificates or an online store credit program? I'm currently looking into the feasibility of having Traveller related design contests on my social media sites and would like to be able to offer some kind of prize for the winner.

Hope that helps!

Outstanding! Exactly what I was looking for!

So, I’m starting to put together some things I intend to submit for the next JTAS set and have some questions, @MongooseMatt.

First, any clue how far out those submissions are from now? Knowing even generally how much time I have would help me get myself in order.

Second, are there submissions guidelines anywhere? Knowing what form and length you’re looking for would be helpful.

The general call for more articles is likely a couple of years away (2027, the anniversary year, is going to kinda take it out of us :)). However, we will accept submissions for JTAS at any time, so if the creative mood takes you, send them in! It may take a while for us to get to them, but you will be near the top of the pile :)

As for guidelines, we intentionally don't have them for JTAS, as the whole point is that anyone can submit pretty much anything. We generally just say 1-12 pages in Word, and leave it at that.

Now, if you get pickled for writing bigger things beyond JTAS (it happens, Hellworld Heists came from that route), then oh boy do we have guidelines. However, for JTAS we want to keep it simple.

I have lots as well!

@MongooseMatt, I made a version of Foreven using the data provided in the Sector Creation Guide a year ago. I pilfered the names of the systems and subsectors from elsewhere, with attribution, and would like to know who might be able to add it to TravellerMap for those who, like me, hate to have a gaping hole in the maps and want something already generated for them. I did the work, so it should be a breeze to make it happen.

As long as you keep in mind that it is the way it is because a lot of people specifically asked for it to be like that. It wasn't some weird oversight or developer whim.
I did say optional. There isn't a timeframe slot for that, but there should be an option to allow for the useless official map and the one that at least has all the worlds in a form that is useable.

Honestly, if the map used the one I created from the Sector Creation Guide, it wouldn't mess with anyone as the map as used there now isn't useful for homebrews either. People playing in that sandbox already would need to substitute their own map.

Yeah, surely the whole point of Foreven is for it to be invitingly (almost) pristine and (nearly) blank?

You'd have to raise a PR in github for the Foreven sector xml and tab files in https://github.com/inexorabletash/travellermap/tree/main/res/Sectors/M1105 but since the most recent change in https://github.com/inexorabletash/travellermap/tree/main/res/Sectors/ is from InexorableTash themselves fixing the link in
https://github.com/inexorabletash/t...31cc7f9473cf34bb72b70033c87d084b6bab3f829834b via the PR https://github.com/inexorabletash/travellermap/commit/2f097b28ceae1eb7a15eab30a1aaf9b2b48b90a8 to file https://www.farfuture.net/documents/FFE Foreven Sector Reserve 2008.pdf which restates the untouchable status of Foreven, I suspect the PR might get rejected!

Maybe you could raise a PR adding a new milieu and adding a version of Foreven in there that you could point others to with the right URL?

Nevertheless, it isn't useful to homebrew or people wanting what was developed for the Sector Creation Guide. As a resource, it does nothing for that sector as it is.

But the first line of the pdf linked in the above PR says that the point is for it to *not* be detailed, even with the data from the worked example in the sector creation guide.

In any case, I told you exactly how to try to get it updated in my post above, if you want to try. If you don't know how to use github, it'll be trickier:
