Career term

Folks:
I'm confused about career terms, and need some clarification.

The career terms are ordered: 0, 1, 2, 3, etc...

When I pass my first term in a career, would that be counted as Career Term 0 or 1?

Are you referring to mongoose or classic traveller, as i just had a look through my MGT MRB and cant find reference to terms starting at 0. The characters first career is their first term, and after completing it, they can either take another term in that career, or move on to another career. so the order would be 1,2,3 etc.

The Mongoose version - The tables show a 0,1,2,3, etc...I'm a little lost by this.

For example on the Mongoose SRD 1.1, page 4. Scouts have the following table

That is the rank table, not terms in career.
That table is when in that career your start at rank zero, if you get the advancement roll, you become rank 1, and gain the skill listed (in this case vac suit 1). If you look at a military career, you will see each line has a rank with as well, so at 0 your rank would be private if in the army.

Oh...

So, you technically complete a career term once you past the final "survival" roll? In addition, the completion of the career term does not depend on the outcome of the roll?

Yes, if you pass the survival roll, your roll on the event table, and apply the results, you can then either serve another term in the same career, or change career. If you fail the survival roll you suffer a mishap, and may end up out of that career.

And you don't complete a career. You either get out, or keep going until you keel over.
