British Army questions

Hello all, a few quick questions regarding the British Army in Modern Combat.

In the Command Section (Platoon HQ) there should be a fourth man with a 51mm mortar. Why isn't he there?

In the Rifle Section there should be two riflemen equipped with LAWs as standard - you don't ditch the LMGs and take LAWs instead. Why aren't there are any LAWs as standard?

There should be an option to take a GPMG in the SF role as a unit of three men - GPMG gunner and two riflemen who carry the weapon and tripod between them. The GPMG exists in the rules, just give it the Ready and Prone traits in the SF role and away you go.

Another quick question:

Why doesn't the Scimitar have its coaxial GPMG? It's only armed with the RARDEN cannon in the rules but in reality it has a Gimpy as well.

That may be true, but it's there. I was thinking, increase the cost to 85 points and give it a coax GPMG. The Gimpy seems to cost 10 points when fitted to a vehicle as an extra option. Thoughts?

The 10 point option is slightly different though, isn't it? Co-ax weapons don't add dice, just +1 to the effect of the main gun?

The 10 point option would be a top mounted GPMG?

the Coax MGs in Modern Combat fire as normal but have to use the same fire zone as the main gun.

The 10 point cost seems to apply across the board, whether the gun gets an all-round or front arc. Seems pretty fair to me. It's an existing weapon in the rules with a predefined points cost. Just an oversight that the Scimitar doesn't have it, so, any dissenters?

I can only assume that all you mentioned is like it is written because somebody thought this is a GAME not a SIMULATION.

You know, like all modern guns have been for the last couple of centuries...

Actually many modern tank guns are smoothbores, the German 120mm used in the Leo2 and M1A2 being a prime example. The British rifled 120mm is now becoming soemthing of an odd one out (rifling is retained in part because of the British Army's favoured use of the HESH round)

Yeah, I know that, DM. I'm mocking the backwards-step that is smoothbore tank guns. The rifled gun is more versatile and we don't need fin-stablised sabot rounds to achieve accuracy. We do, however, need fin-stabilised HEAT rounds, but who fires HEAT any more anyway?

Because MC lists present mostly near future equipment, and the Challenger IIs will get a downgrade from the superior rifled gun to the poor Rheinmetal L55 smoothbore everyone else uses as a part of the Challenger Lethality Improvement Programme ;-) .

Most newly manufactured tanks are using L55s. Leo IIs (probably the most widely exported western tank now) with L55s are sold to many countries - from Canada to Greece. Of course, if we're going to consider number in service - not number of newly manufactured tanks - most folks use 100 and 125mm guns
