Another game with ISA. We upped the scale a "bit" by playing 5 point battle. Space superiority was rolled for scenario. For a fleet I opted for victory(have to try this one), WSC-2(just for colour. Since we still used tournament list would have been better off with 2 white stars instead) and 4 white stars. Opponent used centauri and had 2 primus, sulust, demos, 3 vorchan, 2 darkner and maximus. That's a lot of ships!
Anyway I deployed 4 white stars into loose line(why pack together when you can use manouverability to concentrate fire nicely anyway) with other 2 ships in hyperspace. Opponent deployed in line with sulust, maximus, darkners, primuses and then vorchans+demos.
First turn we just manouvered closer. I put jump points to both sides of centauri line. Turn 2 and fun began with victory appearing from left and WSC-2 from right. White stars accelerated into attack speed as well. Centauri ships attacked toward white stars all-around. Primuses start to turn toward approaching victory. Shooting phase saw slight damage to couple of white stars(nothing serious) and some damage here and there across centauri(couple -2 speed crits as well). Most important was speed 0 no SA crit for darkner.
Turn 3 and things got REALLY interesting. Thunderbolts, nial and flight of starfuries concentrated on the immobilised darkner while victory sped toward primuses. Pulse fire got past interceptors and knocked out weapon systems. Wow! Neutron lasers blew out big chunks of ship as well and what's more crucial disabled damage control for good! Primus wasn't even half damaged yet was out of game for good. We both had feeling game had just turned big time. Though actually those crits were less important than it turned out because WSC-2 and white star(who couldn't shoot anybody else anyway) proceeded to cut down primus to pieces(though barely). But it certainly demoralised opponent.
Still moving darkner nearly knocked one white star out of crew with worst crew critical(we assumed adaptive armour doesn't help with critical damage). Sulust finished that ship out. Darn! Though not before it had finished moving darkner with extreme range neutron laser beam. Heh. Hull 4+improved neutron laser. Heh heh.
On the other side white star knocked out heavily damaged vorchan and damaged slightly(-2 speed for one) demos. Got to love SAP TD precice beam.
Turn 4 saw death of immobilised darkner from swarm of fighters(reinforced by nial flight that had killed pair of sentri flights in dogfight last turn). WSC-2 got bit of a hit from twin arrays from primus(and later narrowly dodged some battle laser shots from sulust) while WSC-2 and white star concentrated fire on the Sulust. Centauri ship was alive but crew almost dead after multiple fires was caused. Centauri lost yet another ship on right as Demos fell victim to pair of white stars(note that it HAD been shot before so not one turn kill).
My shooting was ended by Victory and oh my oh my that ship FIRE! Pulse and fusion beams didn't do much(pity I didn't have white stars and their pulsars nearby) but neutron lasers proceeded to cause FOUR criticals(5 hits, rolled 1, 5, 5, 5, 5 for damage rolls). This knocked weapon AD down, lots of crew dead, some damage and what's more disabled the engine. Speed 0! I sense moment for lightning cannon fire...
Turn 5. White stars continued to play around manouvering behind enemy at will(I'm starting to REALLY like white stars). Victory manouvered around for shot from lightning cannon. Most of centauri fleet manouvered to shoot at victory. To help victory survive I started shooting by blowing up sulust with WSC-2(barely). Then primus opened up. 5 hits and three crits. I gulped big time. First 2 crits nothing major. Speed damage and lots of crew dead and no SA's. 3rd crit was then 6-6...YIKES!
Big hole to victory but still more than half of damage left(this sucker takes damage). Time to fire lightning cannon while I can! 7 hits! 3 crits! 4 damage point from dead before crits. This baby is gonna blow in my face! Well actually it didn't. 2 crew crits so crew was 1 from dead and damage went 2 past damage level. Scratch one primus!
Centauri game was pretty much over at this point. Vorchan tried to shoot at victory. Nothing got through but did soak up interceptors nicely. White star then knocked out weapons out of second vorchan thus saving victory from more firepower. Same vorchan was later blew up by second white star. Morgan finally got to use the anti fighter weapons but only took out one flight of thunderbolts.
With only vorchan and maximus left against 3 white stars, WSC-2 and victory(even if temporalily disabled) we quit the game at this point.
This one was "bit" of a massacre(hurah! Finally I saw centauri game of decent size where centauri lost. So far it has been reverse
). Hyperspace arrival of victory really was the winner coupled with WSC-2 doing same. Victory got into nice range straight away utilising turret weaponry effectively from get-go. In first turn even aft neutron lasers got to fire against Sulust. WSC-2 arrival caused "slight" confusion among centauri lines who responded to it in whacko scale with vorchans and they couldn't catch them anyway!
I'm REALLY starting to like ISA fleet. These white stars are fun to use and victory ain't too bad either(too bad it's harder to include in armageddon rules. Armageddon point is rather expensive to field).
