Of late I have discovered that some children's books are a lot more fun than adult books, often with better characterisation and plots. Two series that I think would make very interesting RPG settings are the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver and the Hungry City Chronicles by Philip Reeve. The first are set in a Neolithic world which is very well drawn and the second in a post-apocalyptic steampunk future where mechanised cities roam much of the world hunting each other in a process known as Municipal Darwinism. Add in ancient cyborgs and lost technology – including powerful beam weapons and space based weapon platforms and lots of airships then you have a great recipe for adventure.
I had been thinking about trying these myself using something like Runequest or STOCS but if Mongoose are looking for new licences then I think these are definitely worth a look.
