Boarding after rolling for stricken ships

Today my game mate an me had a little situation in our match today.
We had a ship, running adrift because the damage reduced its damage point below zero and rolling on the Stricke Ships Table we got the result "running adrift".
Is it legal for annother ship to initiate a Boarding Action so you can get the extra point for capturing it? At least the rules for "Running Adrift" stat that the ship counts as destroyed but still can be boarded.
We have been a little bit unsure and as fair player we rolled a die and agreed to allow atoher sips to board a "destroyed" ship to obtain the extra points.
Was this correct?

You can't do this as the ship is either damaged so badly that you couldn't do anything with it (what's the point of capturing a burnt out wreck?) or the ship has been rendered uninhabitable.

Rules-wise this can be seen by a ship "counts as destroyed" and that you can only board intact ships.

Sorry. However, if you wish to make it a house rule then by all means go for it. I think you'll find though that whoever wins a game would just go round capturing ships at the end to increase the winning margin.

You can, however, board ships that are de-crewed. There are no opposing troops, so you instantly claim the ship in the end-phase following your boarding action.

So wheres the point in the rules on page 9 that you still can board a ship that has 0 Crew (therfore counting as destroyed)?
Doesn´t make sense to me then when I got no benefit.

Because of Victory Points, see page 49.

In such scenarios, Victory Points are earned for the following actions.
Destroying an Enemy Ship: Gain Victory Points equal to the value shown on the Victory Point Table.

It only counts as destroyed for Victory Points, it isn't strictly destroyed.

Maybe i don´t get it. Maybe I´m a little bit slow on the uptake. Sorry. Maybe its an english-german language barrierier in my Head :)

If I lower the Crew on a Ship to 0, Zero, Nada, Zilch through normal shooting, the ship counts as destroyed.

A ship reduced to 0 Crew will take no further active part in the game, will count as destroyed for victory purposes, but may still be boarded (see page 42)

So I get already the Victory Point for Destroying it. Why does the last phrase states that this "destroyed" ship can still be boarded if I don´t get anything else then just the VP for destroying it?
So my understanding was, the ship has 0 Crew, therefore counts as destroyed, according to the rule on page 9 I may use "Initiate Boarding Action" to send Troops to this "Destroyed" Ship, which is running adrift. So I can capture the Ship. There are no troops on this ship so i automaticly win the boarding. Ergo gaining extra points for capturing it.

If the Ship still got crew, and would be on 0 Damage and runing adrift, therfore, are not automaticly captured, because my troops first have to finish of the rest of the crew.

Ships that are burned out hulk, can´t be boarded, cause they are not running adrift and exploded ships can´t be boarded cause they are not there anymore.

That was my Interpretation in the game I had.

So I hope somebody can tidy up the mess :) (I there is a german player who can explain it to me he is free to send me a PM in german for better understanding ;) )

Regards

Frank

Hi, I am the opposed Fleet Cap.^

My understanding is, if you set the Crew with Critical Hit to 0, the ship go to run adrift and can be borded. (If the Damage has remaning Point(s)).

If a ship goes running adrift after the roll of the Damage Table (roll of 1-6 or 7-11) you may never bording it - it´s a drifting burndout hull.
MfG

I think maybe the English/German barrier, is the meaning of 'counts as'.

A ship with no crew is not actually destroyed. It just gives the same Victory Points as a destroyed ship.

But your English is far, far better than my German.

------

There are two ways to eliminate a ship from the game.

1. Running Adrift (commonly called decrewed). The ship may have been damaged, but all the crew have been killed or taken out of action.

2. Stricken. (destroyed). Roll on the table for explosion etc. One possible result is running adrift - which is not the same as above, simply uses the rule for movement.

In both cases, the ship takes no further active part in the game. In both cases VPs are awarded.

------
The use of running adrift is somewhat confusing.
There are four ways to be running adrift:
1. Crew reduced to 0.
2. Damage reduced to 0, roll 1-6 on damage table.
3. Damage reduced to 0, roll 12-17 on damage table, so drift and explode.
4. Get a movement crit.

These are really 4 different things, but confusingly the rules all refer to 1. to simply describe how the ship moves under these conditions.

-------
So I get already the Victory Point for Destroying it. Why does the last phrase states that this "destroyed" ship can still be boarded if I don´t get anything else then just the VP for destroying it?

You get double VPs.

If the Ship still got crew, and would be on 0 Damage and runing adrift, therfore, are not automaticly captured, because my troops first have to finish of the rest of the crew.

If a ship has 0 damage, it is finshed, gone, deceased. It's crew are dead or evacuated. It can't be captured. There is nothing left to capture.

------
Just to note, many players simply remove stricken ships from the table for simplicity's sake.

2. question
If a ship is captured, the Crew is wiped out and I got 8 Troops on bord that ship. Cane I initiating an bording action to bring a part of the Troops (maybe 4 or 5) back to there Mothership?

Nope, there's nothing in the rules about retrieving or re-using troops. Once they've boarded a ship, they're stuck there.

I think I can live with the explanation above.
Even if the results of 1-6 on the table are very useless from my point of view, as long as there is no asteroid field the ship is running into and the eventualy explodes an damaging other ships. And this is a rare occasion ;)

But anyway Thx.

Leaving stricken ships on the table achieves very little. It is only important if you are playing a campaign fleet where salvage is important (Raiders etc).

Stricken ships are just a navigaton hazard, they move in the end phase so they might get in your way, the overlapping bases rule still applies.

Having said that, I and everyone I know just removes them from the board for simplicity.

The rule for stricken, adrift, is just three words - "As detailed above". What's above is the rule for "Running Adrift", which mostly deals with a ship with 0 crew. This seems to imply that 1 and 2 are the same. Regarding a ship with 0 damage as being immune to boarding would therefore probably be the most widely used house rule in the history of ACTA, and one which I've been using and intend to continue using. :)

Note that even if you capture a ship which isn't at 0 damage points, it's still useless. The boarding troops can't crew it to use it against its former owners, and it can't be added to your fleet list during a campaign, it's just a trophy.

Deoends on the view someone looks at the game.

1-6 Running adrift: Ship is knocked out, but barley intact. You could imply this cause there is no wording form burned out hulk. And even a heavaliy damaged ship can be of intresst for the enemy. Whats about intel in computer systems? No wording states ther is no atmosphere on board.
Its just another point of view in an abstract gameing mechanism. Which could be justified due to the case you can only get this result for 100% sure if you reduce a ship to zero damage. Anyhthinf below could realy seriously destroy a ship.

7-11 Ship Destroyed: This could imply that the ship is realy so badly damaged it is beyond worth repairing. So it doesn´t make sense to board

12-up: exploding ship anyway. nothing to board.

But a mentioned above I run fine with the rule for not bording a stricken ship.
Even there is no wording/rule/etc which says the the rule and the table mentioning the rule are two diffrent things.
So one can think it´s all houserules we are talking about. Which I don´t have a problem using and if it´s just for the sake of good game with my opponent ;)
