Board of Inquiry

Hi,

I've just finished running "The Crowded Hours" adventure and we're going to move on to "Beltstrike".

I figure a logical conclusion to "The Crowded Hours" would be to have a Board of Inquiry. I'm looking for suggestions on how to run a Board of Inquiry in a Traveller game.

TIA,

Ian

Are you wanting to role play the board of inquiry, or are you wanting to know roughly how one occurs?

Otherwise a board of inquiry can be run honorably, or its run politically, or they are looking to find a scapegoat for the matter at hand. Depending on what you want to do to the players, you could conceivably drum them out as a sacrificial lamb of sorts, and then reward them on the back end.

I guess I'm looking for more of how you are wanting to get out of it.

barnest2 did one of sorts in his PbP game here on Mongoose forum

Each player was required to write in a PM their version of events and any answers to any questions that were asked.

He then compared them to each to each other.

You could have the players write you out one the same.

Now, why do this even though everyone knows what the other players did? Because it sets up the intrigue factor. In the game the characters were taken into custody and question separately while the ship (in barnest2's game) was being searched for evidence, and since the players where not present who knows what might be found or 'planted'.

IMO, you could just let the players know at the end of a session that a board of inquiry has been called and they are taken in and separated from each other. You could hand them a list of questions that their players are required to provide in writing the answers to you and that they are not to talk to each other. (You need to trust them on this) Or if you wanted to waste game time, do it in game and give them say 30 minutes to write out their answers with out talking to each other.

A few months ago I used a combination of 'Book 5 Agent' & Barnest2's idea's in my own PbP campaign when a noble was killed in an impromptu duel on the player's starship. Players made statements and I used their statements as bits of evidence as laid out in Book 5. I was reasonably happy with the way it worked out, your own mileage may vary.
