Blood of Orlanth

Mage

Mongoose
I am just wondering about this supplement. It sounds like a cool mission/campaign. I am concerned though.

Since it is set in Glorantha, I have no clue what: Orlanth, EWF or God learners are. I know I can find answers on the forums, but are these explained in the book for the party and GM who are unfamiliar with the setting, or do I have to buy the player's guide as well (I have no intention on getting this, at all). If I have to get the players guide, I am staying away from this Blood of Orlanth book.

Can anyone help?

Hmm. You _might_, maybe, be able to get by just on Blood of Orlanth alone, but I wouldn't recommend it. The campaign does make it moderately clear who the factions are and what they want, but at the same time, it says things like 'Right Word Now is a noble dragonewt" without explaining what a dragonewt is, or how 'noble' means a specific thing in this context (it denotes what stage of his life cycle Right Word Now is at, not his character or social standing). It's not a generic adventure with a few Gloranthan names and places; it's a clash of three cultures in Glorantha.

I have just read the review of 'Blood of Orlanth' in Signs and Portents. If even half the review is correct, then it has gone from an interesting idea to a fully fledged 'must-have' as it fits my campaign like a glove.

It could even induce some waverers to jump into Glorantha, so I would have a look before deciding that Glorantha is just not for you

I know it will allow me to create exactly the feel and situations I have been planning. My players are due some major level shocks now.

:?
How Mongoose knew what I was thinking is the worrying thing!

Well to throw another coin into the fountain..

My group were one of the ones assigned to the playtesting of this, and as others will know from my posts in others threads previously, we know pretty much nothing about Glorantha. Despite being familiar with numerous editions of it we never used/owned anything gloranthan related that wasnt included in core rulebooks/box sets.

Now this said we had no trouble making sense of things related to this campaign, with the exception of a single name (Seemingly important) that is mentioned at the end (name that undoubtedly would (we assume) have some relevance to Gloranthan fans, but to us meant nothing).

There is a heck of a lot of info on factions, places, people involved etc.. and the sides are very well represented. Thier are reasons to like/dislike all of them..

I shant give away any spoilers, but this campaign is one of the best written for any game system I personally have encountered for many years, and with the exception of a handful of "Chosen Few" across many systems, I am in general no great fan of published adventures/campaigns, but it has to be said a bang up job was done of this. Beyond a few suggestions and and requested clarifications this campaign is oneof the most flawless written things we've had come our way to playtest...and it was a heck of a hoot to play to boot, its just a pity we dont get to see all the art etc..when we playtest as that would have made it even better :)

Either way going on our own experiences i'd give it a thumbs up, recommendation... drop your kids at the sitters, lay down your work tools and take a break...and GET down to your FLGS asap to get this as soon as it hits the shelves, you'll be glad you did!!! ;)

This is what i have been waiting for , a full on campaign to get my group going.

The background stuff so far has been great though.

But scenarios are essential for the busy GM

I'm playing it with my Friday night group at the moment, and whilst they haven't got very far, there's an interesting mix of God Learner/Orlanthi clashes brewing (they're playing GLs, BTW).

Its a really good scenario book. Gar's done a great job.

I nver buy supplements unless they are for a world that I am currently running. Just too damned lazy to change the names, I guess..

I have all the Glornatha books, and I will get the ones as they come out. Saves a lot of money, when you have to buy them all at once...

I will just run it in my own world. I take bits of Glroatnha, like the monsters mainly, for my own use. I am totally shameless with it, but there is some Glorathan stuff that is just cool.

I'm playing in Loz's group and must say as a 20+yr Gloranthaphile, it's the Real Deal. Some nice details and characters + situations that illustrate the depth of Glorantha.

But it's also accessible to newbies; a great intro to the clash of 3 cultures in Dragon Pass/Maniria And lots of fun roleplaying opportunities, definitely not a hack-and-slash fest.

You have no idea how relieved that makes me feel. I knew I could deliver a workable _adventure_, but I couldn't tell if I'd captured the Gloranthan feel.

so is this finally the Runequest equivalent to Masks of Nyarlathotep and Enemy Within ?

I don't know those sadly (or can't remember them), but it certainly is epic, or seems that way from what we've played so far. And it is lengthy-- we've played about 8hrs or so, not at a crawling pace, but we're only some 7pgs into the 96 pg book, I'm told. There is lots to do, and breaks in between so that other adventures can snuggle in between those of the BoO campaign. You'll get your money's worth out of this one, I am pretty sure.

Wow they're in my top three all time greats!

I think they'd make most people's top three...both are of the highest quality.

I wonder if the third is Borderlands or Griffin Mountain?
