I don't know about them being veterans... the B5 guys pretty much blew their asses away without much trouble.

I suspect that that was just Bad Guys Syndrome. You know, where you have the bad guys so elite that they're untouchable, right up until the point when the heroes turn up and they start fighting like they've barely passed basic training...

BGS, of course. Most likely, they were elite at blowing away unarmed transports and hadn't had much experience in real combat. Elite training is great, but not a substitute for having dodged harmful things...
