Big announcement. . . when, Matt????

Cuda,

It was a joke man. That's usually what this thing => means.
I just thought it was funny that the announcement (which originally was "just a few days off") seemed to be following the same schedule as a few of the models.
I think it's fantastic that you provide miniatures to local youths. I coach 4
youth Lacrosse teams and tutor in my spare time. what does that have to do with anything?

I don't know what the state of SST is in your area, but in my area it's about
5 seconds from dead. That's after CONSTANT demoing since day one of the game, an enormous amount of money sunk into it, AND offering to buy the starter set for certain people. Unfortunately the time for "patience" is passed (it passed several months ago when the last store actively supporting SST stopped due to lack of interest and QC issues.).
Despite my reservations I have put WAYYY too much into this game to see it fail, but unless something BIG happens NOW then it will fail in my area. :?

Compare to EE where we have waited for more than four years to get a new Eldar Codex .

It's more like 7 or 8 years! It was 98 or 99 when the Eldar codex was last released!
On the subject of Eldar though, all the lovely stuff for them is currently occupying my attention so I'm prepared to wait for the Mongoose announcement

And they STILL don't have it right.

According to a good friend of mine who still works at the EE Studio, a whole new re-vamp of 40k is due between 2009 and 2011.

It goes on and on . . . . . . . . .

from what I've seen it is looking a vast improvement over the cacked up 3rd ed codex. My complaint is the demise of the craftworld lists...

It makes business sense for GW to update the game every few years so I can't blame them for that. 7th ed fantasy sounds like it's a bit of a mess though

yup, if it never changed they'd complain, it changes so they complain. You can't win.

Look at the current SST debate..... lots of players calling for a revamp of the rules allready.

Who's calling for a revamp? I'd just like some clarifications, and MAYBE some minor tweaks now that the game has been out long enough for everyone to see what is and is not working (honestly I think it's a fine system-just a miserably written rule book). Hopefully MGP isn't going to pull an SST v2 that will be completely different from what we've got now, but then again you're right Jose-"darned if you do, darned if you don't" definately applies here in terms of any rules they might change.

I hereby promise, hand on heart, anything you have in your collection, be it miniatures or books, you will still be able to use.

Whew! Thanks Matt! To be honest I was really sweating that! Be forewarned though- I will hold you to your promise! :D

I saw the nasty 10 mm threat, but I believe in the game and in Matt who said that that is not to happen. . .

I don't see how constructing a Foosball table could be construed as a threat to the game of Soccer (or Football for non-U.S.). Be assured Richgo22 that I'm not flaming you, but more like poking you in the ribs  . If a different scale of the game is ever offered, I don't see it as a threat, but more as of an opportunity to bring in players (and there are a lot of them) that play in the smaller scale figures used in mass battles. I've seen various forums that mention that SST could work well for mass battles. I blame the first movie for this, as the visuals were a stunning example of the use of special effects. Thus, I don't see the concept as a splitting of the game as I more see it as a recruiting tool for additional players of the core system. Cheese for the trap, as it were. There could also be a use for this version for large campaign battles or (and I consider this important too) for those players that don't have a local gaming club and that just don't have a 4'x6' table to play on. A card table would suffice for those that can't borrow the dining table for use as a battlefield. So think of this as an addition to the current SST "pizza". If you don't like this certain "topping", you can eat your slices without it. However, others may decide to try our brand of pizza (the SST game in general) because of that topping and then I'd bet they'll lose any bias they had for the "skirmish" scale. I'm glad you said your opinion, as this will not be for everyone that plays SST. I'll be trying this out as a test idea for MGP to gauge any benefits they might see in it. This game is already a wonderful mix from three distinct sources (book, movie and CGI series), and Mongoose has been successful in offering a different hook for the various potential players to find in the game. I just don't see this option as anything different from that. For example, something that I've seen recently on various Forums is that an entirely new batch of "recruits" have entered this game because of only two new released figures- The Cougar and Grizzly Exosuits. Yep, those were indeed the chaps that were loyal to the original book. They didn't like what the rest of us were playing because the movie and televised series didn't "hook" them. When they saw the exosuits they were drawn into the game system. Heh, this was brilliant on Mongoose's part if I do say so. Once they buy and paint up their exosuit squads and platoons, they'll play with the rest of us and will be less resistant (heck, they're playing the game now!) to adding the other "non-book" units. Finally, don't look at all this drivel I'm typing here as meant just for you. I'm really just biding my time until Matthew rings our collective bells with his announcement, heh.

I hope you guys know he wasn't actually at Gencon :P

Either that, or the guy I was taking orders from at Mongoose Towers during Gencon was some kind of cunning stunt double

I keep telling everyone that, but they just don't listen.

See guys? I'm NoT KraZee. Hehehehe...

Some theories:
No announcement is coming. Mongoose is actually out of ideas, and this whole mess is just a big brainstorming event.

Or they just delay and delay and finally make the announcement on April 1. 07 :)

Seriously, with all this fuss about them wanting to "show" stuff, it has to be something with a really impressive visual element. A tunnel terrain board? Lifesize warrior bug replica? (a 50mm scale version would be ok though:))

Patience, gentlemen. Insofar MGP is generally doing good (if sometimes delayed) work, so see no reason not to give enough time to work over any difficulties that seem to have delayed the announcement.

BuShips. . . you got it. Many players only attend to a game because of the MODELS. As you quote with the nicely done Exos. . . that brought those players to SST.

THE MODELS!

I now many players (I should call them collectors) who only collect and paint EE minis. The most Fantasy players here in Germany NEVER play, but collect and paint- because of the minis.

Hell, I showed some 40K guys the pics of the announced dropships. Their loved it- because of the MODELS.

The 30mm (28, 25. . .)Scale is the DEFACTO accepted scale for wargaming. Try painting 10mm minis. . .

I myself like 1:100 Flames Of War. . . but this games foccuses on tank and ari minies.

I can relate to this, Quark. I have been unable to demo this year due to work (six days a week for the first half of the year...so much fun!) but I have a few friends that are still active so I have heard about things from them. The breath of life in this area was actually the exosuits and skinnies (more so the suits I think), but who knows how long this will last.

Still, regardless of the local situation, I really enjoy playing the game. Even if it doesn't gain more support locally, I know enough people in the area that I will still be able to play for years to come. :D

Thanks 'Snowman! My primary problem is that none of my gaming friends
are into wargames so I tend to have to drum up interest on my own, and if I can't do that then the game tends not to be played. This was pretty easy for VOR, so I was hoping SST would be the same way, but it's been an uphill battle all the way and I'm afraid I'm not winning at this point.

On the bright side I may have picked up a new player (one who lives like two hours away :?) thanks to these forums, so all hope is not quite yet lost.
I can definately see the cave-in at the end of the tunnel though.

I'll freely admit my sincere weakness for the upcoming dropship and fighter models. It will be hard for the paint to dry if covered by a thorough coating of slobber  .

That could be part of the problem, at least in your case. It seemed like Vor was just picking up steam when suddenly FASA folded. Can be very discouraging to someone who just got into the hobby and make them leery of new things in the future.

Quark,
Hey guy sorry about the jump down the throat thing. I missed the Emoticon smiley face. My bad. You know old age blind, whacko.

It is just there has been so much negativity lately by some Forum members that I reacted, having disengaged my brain from my typing finger.

I seriously apologize for getting on your case.

Hope you accept my apology. Please, please, please, please, please, please
