Beyond the Abyss - Vassal Tournament

Sorry if the wording's unclear. If I remember correctly:

Start date is 16th June. From then you have 1 week per opponent to play your games, with an additional week to help you to arrange the games.

e.g. If you have 6 players in your group, you will play 5 games. This gives you 6 weeks (1 week per game plus an extra week) to complete all of your games.

Then the semi-final and final each have a maximum of 2 weeks to be played.

Each stage will commence as soon as all of the previous round's games have been played.

e.g. if both semis are complete, the final can commence immediately.

Looking good folks, can't wait to get this started...

...there are a few more spots if people want to get their entries in :)

So far as I can tell, it's an even-ish split between North America and Europe (if you're talking about time zones that is).

well we have 5 actually signed up so far with 3 in the states and 2 in UK & eire. with more possibles saying they will be playing but no fleet lists upcoming as yet with just over a week to sign up.

I'll send my list tomorow, just have to think about it for a while, i'd like to try things i don't usualy play as i don't have the counters

OK folks, as promised, this is the entry and information thread for the latest Vassal tournament. This one has the very kind support of Mongoose Publishing, providing generous prizes. These are a fleet boxed set of your choice for First Place and $40 of miniatures for Most Sporting Opponent!

Wow! And I was happy with medals... tempted to get into Vassal now...

C'mon in! If all you have to do is be a truly great guy and thereby win $40 ... what's not to like?

Say what you want about anything else in Mongoose's operations -- and they may be accurate -- but their tournament support is ridiculously good; I have very rarely heard of such good prize support as we have seen from MGP (obvious thanks from the participants of Chicago III, IV, and V as well!)

Yeah, I was impressed with this too - I thought a boxed set was very good and I suggested $20 for Sporting Opponent but Ian Barstow was exceedingly generous and doubled that :)

If it attracts more players then I guess that's serving its purpose perfectly!

In the tournament pack it states that Armageddon and sky full of stars are a requirement, I am fairly new to ACTA (and wargaming) and only have the revised edition rule set. As 2e is due soon I‘m not gonna buy either supplements - so does this mean I cannot participate in this tournament?

If you are aware of the updated rules (e.g. to Stealth and Fighters) and have access to the ship stats then you'd still be welcome :)

Basically, if you've played a few games with the most recent version of the rules and feel comfortable with them then go for it.

VASSAL has a spectator mode, hasn´t it? Any chance of watching the tournament games (a schedule on the forum perhaps)? I´d love to see a VASSAL game in action once...

Who's signed up/confirmed so far (what are the names of the people who are going to kick my a**)?

and which fleets will they be taking? Not lists but which race?
Races and fleets will only be revealed after everyone has finished entries as it may bias new players. Katadder has the list of entrants.

Well, any game I'm involved in you'd be more than welcome to spectate and I assume most other players would be the same. If you want to enter go ahead (just try a practice game on your own/with someone to make sure you're confindent on the mechanics).

once I have all entrants fleets the actual fleet lists will be released as well as no one can then change their list and this also means there can be no underhandedness when you find you are fighting boneheads and forgot scouts or whatever :)

so far we have 7 entrants, 5 more places left guys and just over 5 days to get in.

also a very quick edit to vassal to put the shakara at the proper PL and to put the SFOS troligan back in so both variants are there (although its SFOS variant only for tourney folks if you want it).

Well spectator mode and spectator mode...

You can watch the fun but just watch your mouse :D Vassal doesn't differentiate players and watchers so if you decide to drag and drop ships they move :D

Of course there is undo button so it can be fixed but players probably don't appreciate somebody messing with their fleet positions

Note: I'm not against spectators but figured might just as well give warning.
