best way to layout in a wiki

Any of you guys use wiki software to manage your game worlds? I have been an avid user of Dokuwiki for several years but it fails at formatting some types of data easily without eating up a entire page-width.

For NPCs for instance, without using tables you have to turn each character into a header. I'd like to make double column NPCs to save page room, maybe shrink the text a bit and make it easier on the eyes.

Anybody have personal experience with similar things?

Obsidian Portal is pretty cool...

I'm not a huge wiki user, but the ones I've used generally have a native way to format the documents, and allow embedded html if you want something really fancy.

I was hoping to avoid embedded html but it might turn into that I guess.
