Banded Mongoose
Hi Has anyone got any suggestions on historical references or websites displaying carriers by name against "flat top" marking designs?
thanks

I found it was real pot luck finding flat top markings for carriers (in fact all ships) which were accurate to the period. It's also even tougher to scale it to 1/3000 :) Which is why some of mine look a bit slapdash...

Many of the photos are not in colour (so it's difficult to work out the appropriate scheme) and many that are in colour were taken post-war (as many of the carriers survived the war by many years - Midway class is case in point). Base deck colour for the USN seemed to be stained wood, or dark grey (close to shadow grey/black mix)

Give a good google to each carrier or class of carriers you have, and you may find pictures. I know I found a camo photo of the Wasp, which was why I painted her in camo. I also found a few good top-down photos of the Essex class and the Lexington which showed their deck markings and base colours.
