best FAP split at 1pt Armgd

Sigh...

No matter who's point split we use I find this not doing what I wanted. Wish we had gone to a straight point system instead of this twisted pl structure. The supposed simplicity and quickness of putting a fleet together just isn't there with the 'go down and buy up' or the 'always split at least one point further down' approach.

That said, the best value would depend heavily on the number of FAP being played with. If the scenario is 1 Arm, the 2 War and 5 Raid are both tempting in just about any fleet (maybe not drazi...perennial problem child with the sink system). If the scenario is multiple points at Arm, but you are looking for a useful buy down, you should consider taking the point down to at least skirmish and buying up a slot or two so you have sufficient sinks to operate in a active rather than completely reactive strategy.

Have to contradict you here - with only a little experience with the system, it IS faster to put together a fleet. Having a list of all possible splits helps of course (which get´s just a little longer with "buying up")

Guess we'll have to contradict each other then, as I say this system takes longer than any straight point system I've played that didn't involve micro-management of 'accessories'. And at least in those systems what you were worrying about was what ship you wanted, not which purchase forced you to take two other column b.

In a straight point system I've never had to explain the system more than once. With this I've had to explain the system repeatedly to some of our more casual playing friends. That feels cumbersome and somehow flawed. Maybe I'm wrong...maybe its the number of revisions its been through. Arm was a blessing as at least the basics of breakdown were consistent unlike the memorization exercise in SFoS, hopefully we'll have settled for sure on a system this time and I won't have folks asking me for the tenth time 'how does this work?"

Just me, our regulars have the system down, its the folks who don't make a living out of the games that struggle...but I like playing with the casual crowd, and straight addition of a points system seems easier.

I admit it takes some practise, but I can put together a unique fleet list of any size in about thirty seconds - with points, unless I use basically the same army list every time, I always have to do the maths , especially in bigger games. It´s worst with GW games, but also true for other games like Warmachine (which offers the possibly fastest point-based creation rules out there).

But that might just be me.
