Beltstrike Errata?

I may have found a bit of an issue.

The Artefact Value Table on page 10 of my copy seems to be missing entries for die roll results 3, 4, 5, 10, and 11. Anyone else's copy missing these entries?

Its actually a table structure error, not an omission.

The table should read '2-5', '6-11' and '12'

There aren't any missing entries.

I know this is a VERY old thread but I need it!

I recently bought Beltstrike after a recent thread concerning the ringed planetoid in our solar system and got me interested in a solo belter campaign. (I'm so lonely)

Going through the book to create belters then running a game, I found some confusion.

In the Asteroid composition: Prospecting, there are a couple lines of instruction between results 5 and 6 on the Exotics table that must belong somewhere else. Any idea where?

Also, I notice you are supposed to determine how many tons of usable resource is available by multiplying your Resource Yield against the tons in the Size/Extent column. There's no tonnage for Small and Large planetoid results. Book mentions you can sell the asteroid for a ship hull. Are they too big to mine and you just wasted you time surveying or are they a very mineable source with no limit?

The last, so far, is what is Prospecting Sensors and software? Does it have any function compared to the Military Sensor or is it just descriptive?

That's it for now. I'm playing the game by keeping a diary of each significant event from mustering out and heading into the belt to the first survey and find. As soon as I understand the planetoid issue, I can continue.

It appears that the lines should be the first bullet points under the heading Detailed Survey and Logistics on the top of the right column.

It is very nearly the latter option. Once you find the radius (r) of the planetoid you can find the total volume (V) with the equation V = 4/3*Pi*r^3. Divide the total volume by 14 to get the total dTons and apply the yield percentage as normal.

You can see that a good sized planetoid will be far more than a solitary miner could extract in a lifetime. It would also be extremely dangerous for a small mining operation to try to get to the interior ores. These finds are better to sell than work yourself; even 10% of a trillion credit asteroid will set your belter up for life.

Doing some solo asteroid prospecting of my own, I soon discovered that planetoids are far too common in the table. In any asteroid of the three zones my prospector was a billionaire within a few months. I modified the table for my games so the small planetoids are found only on a roll of 11 and large planetoids on a roll of 12, with a separate planetoid table to find the actual planetoid size.

*sigh* So glad this was well play-tested...

The book has been making me think more about belter content. I realize the Seeker is a frontier vessel while the Singleship is a local version mining known sources. I see a Seeker more often involved in prospecting unlicensed, looking for systems with little protection for their resources. A singleship seems in the realm of the corporate wage earner or a leased vessel (Rent-A-Seeker) which is great for a campaign solely within a single system or a special scenario. Both can also fall victim to the space encounter tables but I see the Jump capable Seeker getting into more 'adventures' due to their changing local and legal status.

And yeah, even if I play within a single system, dumb me forgot I MUST roll for a weekly encounter in space or the starport when I come in to unload and buy supplies! Half the fun and a reminder there's another reason you have a pulse laser... or should, on your vessel. Another thread addressed what do pirates do and that would be ducking SDB patrols to go after belters all alone out in the wilds. Wow, american western! Now you know why the Corsair can swallow a 100 ton ship.
