Becoming a playtester

You can also be a playtester by being a contributor. In order to do that, you have to work on something peripheral which the designer is interested in. The right bait catches the right fish.

Being a contributor to S&P certainly helps... but yes.. sometimes they put out opens calls.

The last time they did this IIRC (for SST at least) was when they created the "Six good men" to help playtest SST.

Matt used (I'm assuming) a combination of forum voting (there was a thread asking who people on the forum thought should be in the group), posting history, gaming experience, time invested in the game, etc. (and I wouldn't be surprised if varying geographic locations played a role too).

I think a better way to become a playtester is just to be around one of the current ones (Me (NYC), Cynic (UK), Rendar (NYC), Hiro (DC area) I think are still around and up for games) and ask them for a game). We don't just set up models in our basements and play against ourselves to playtest... we need lots of other people to help! So, you might not be getting playtest rules directly from Matt, but you can get an inside look at where the game is headed.
