Battle of Jutland?

You will need several players as well as space, but AOD can easily handle Jutland. We have been play testing AOD fighting the battlecruiser part of the battle. One on one was a lot of ships for one player to handle, but two on two was a lot of fun. We'll give the full Jutland a go as soon as I get both fleets painted and based. I'm going to create all of the necessary counters and markers as well. They make the game so much easier to play.

Coolio. I'm itching for an excuse to get the Jutland pack from Navwar.

That's what mine is. I got it through Spirit Games. Even though they charge more for the pack, they only charge the actual shipping cost to the US instead of the 40% that Navwar wants. For the most part the quality is good. I had some RN destroyers that were miscast and look horrible, and one pack of 2 that was the wrong destroyer type. One RN BC was miscast as well. Still worth it. Even if you could get all of the models in 1/2400, the cost would be quite high. The 1/3000 Navwar are easy to paint.

to echo the earlier comments - yes, it could handle Jutland but you would need a lot of apsce and quite a few players. Last time I did the whole battle with GQ2 I think we had about 14.

Did GQ handle the destroyer flotillas as individual ships or as flotillas that were one unit?

How does VaS:AOD handle them?

All those destoyers could definitely cause a significant impact on play if they are each run individually.

GQ gave you the option of running DDs and TBD individually or by divisions. AoD treats them individually but allows them to work b divisions, so speed of play shouldn't be unduly affected.

One thing about WWI is that ships move in formations, and a lot of ship movment is really just follow the leader. It makes things move faster, particularrly as these are WWI destroyers and tend to die much quicker than thier WWII counterparts.

Still, it should be noted that Jutland was a monster battle, involving the bulk of the RN and KM. There are going to be a lot of ships. I have both the Jutland packs from Noble miniatures (1:6000 being a great way to go for fleet actions) and even a smaller action like Dogger Bank uses up a lot of an 8x8 table
