basic noob question

Well as i can assume most of you are able to find this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mea_culpa

The ashes on my head was from the walk to Canossa if memory serves me right. Tying into the atoning. But that was 1077 according to Wikipedia.....

Sry so much from me, now i dont know about 79......or at least me brain doesnt kick that information around at the moment.

We do use a lot of latin "sayings" in French it's like a part of our language.
(when you use i.e. you know it means "id est", "that's to say" or something like that (sorry for my english)). We use "mea culpa" or "alea jacta est" as if they were french words, sorry ;-)

For 79 and ashes I was thinking about pompéi when people got "ashes on their head" and when religious people were saying it was inhinabitants fault displeasing their gods.
(the "culpa" part ;-) )
