Base Sizes

Mongoose
Greetings and salutations, forumites. I request information on what base size the following ships are:

Apollo, Chronos, Delphi, Explorer, and Marathon.

I believe it's:
Apollo:large
Chronos: small
Delphi: small
Explorer: large
Marathon: large

I have also had Chronoses packed with the large bases however.

Of course, as it's a proper noun you shouldn't alter the spelling of the name at all!

Technically the best way of resolving this is to call them Chronos Frigates :P

I thought Chronos Frigates were like sheep. One sheep, two sheep. One Chronos, two Chronos.

But back to topic.

I don't think the base you get with the mini is a reliable indication of what it should go on, mongoose could be pretty random when it came to sending out bases. The original fleet box of shadows I got had nothing but those tiny round bases in it. And at the other end of the scale I recently recieved a Tricari frigate with a large, round metal base. I'd like to see that fall over mid game. And when I got my brikiri carrier (the brokados) it had nothing but a wee little slotta base. Needless to say I modified it to go on a large round base, just in case gravity isn't away on vacation when I play with my Brikiri.

Nah, sheep is like this (according to my b rother) one sheep, two sheeps, 3 or more sheepses. So that makes it one Chronos, 2 Chronoses, 3 or more Chronoseseseseseseseses.......

I had a mixed selection of bases supplied with the ships I've bought, I tend to pick one that will support the ship enough.

A bit of a related question; Does base size on ships matter at all?

As someone else here I got a few brakiri ion the end sale and my Avoki with a small round slottabase will fall over if someone moves in the house across the street, so is there any point to use that base or could I exchange it for something that will accualy work?

It does matte for certain rules.
  • Fighters in base contact with a ship ignore its stealth
  • Bases cannot overlap so positioning may be easier with smaller bases
  • Ramming actions require base contact, so larger bases make it easier to ram
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head, there may be more.

Instead of replacing the slotted base, you could glue it to something larger. Wooden disks are are available in most crafts stores, and metal washers are pretty easy to find. The extra weight helps stability, too.

Personally I've always felt the MGP small bases were too small...I use small GW bases instead, for my chronos. my white stars though, came with all large bases.

Although, the small bases on the last few batches of ships I've recieved were 1.25 inches in diameter instead of the old 1 inch.

Kind of blows the whole 'the size of the base matters' argument out the window...

Size matters!

its not the size of your ship that matters, but how over powered and borken the rules are for it
