B5 VS Star Trek

my list: Mock adn laugh as you will!

New Battlestar Galactica (just because it is!) and Heroes (but not sure if in same genre)
Stargate SG-1 (although the end of Season was not great(or in fact Season One) - playing golf through the Stargate and Wormhole Extreme! - gotta love it, that and the character interaction)
Odessey 5
Farscape - Babylon 5 - Star Trek DS9 rate them about the same - (although I turned off after the Shadows went and Clark was overthrown, hate technomages and rangers and don't mention Grey 13)
Lexx (first 2 seasons)
Dark Angel
Star Trek: Voyager (only for the Doctor and 7of 9, shoot most of the rest)
Star Trek Enterprise (again for the girls and very cool mirror Universe
X-Files (only the fun episodes - the ones without the tiresome and stupidconsirpacy )
Cleopatra 2525
Primevil
Star Trek TNG
Starship Troopers animated
Stargate Atlantis (its fairly dire - only like the Mckay? and the new fighter guy (who seems to be copied from Andromada)

Space Above and Beyond (again selected episodes - the silent sniper one was fun - only when they were not making speaches for half an hour)

I am re-watching space above and beyond, sure, it had more plot holes than the grand giant dutch cheese of plot, but It was cool. Shame it only got one series, and I can blank out the really bad episodes easily enough.

Odyessey 5 was a HBO show I think - very good - a Shuttle crew see earth blown up and are sent back in time to see who did it and if they can stop them.......

Primevil is a ITV show (Uk televison) again dealing with time travle - but dinosaurs etc - fun light entertainment and better than Dr Who in my opinion........

Andromeda wasn't brilliant but I do like the design of the Glorious Heritage class Heavy Cruisers, in fact I like a lot of the commonwealth designs :lol:

Babylon 5 = the best (ignore the bag of crap)
Crusade is better than people give it credit for, only problem is it was never finished
Star Trek (original series) was good, and if that hadn't been done you could argue whether the others would have, or certainly the way that they were.
Star Trek after that = bore everything to death.
Star Wars (original 3) good, bit tiring after seeing them on tele so much but thats not SWs fault
Star Wars (new 3) had so much to explain about why things were how they were in the original 3 or 4,5&6 depending how you look at it, and left it all to the last 10 minutes of the third film! and why were they more technologically advanced in the 'new' 3 that were chronologically older(ie came before new hope etc 'old 3')?

The more I hear about DS9 the more I feel I should get into it. Normally I avoid anything Trek-related like the plague.

DS9 was excellent.
First two seasons were slow to get going, but they certainly delivered the goods!
And the Jem Hed'ar! Yes!

Torchwood 1 was devastated in the battle at the end of 'Parting of the Ways'.
Torchwood 2 is alive and well in Glasgow.
Torchwood 3 is the Cardiff base in the show.
Torchwood 4 is the missing one.

So none have been blown up. Torchwood One was invaded by Cybermen and then had an army of daleks and cybermen dragged through the main office.

I was combing this thread to see if anyone mentioned SAaB. Very cool even though you like it, hiffano :twisted: Gambling androids. Good TV military science fiction.

My favorites, in order:

Trek TOS
new Battlestar Galactica
ST: Enterprise
ST: DS9
Babylon 5 tied with Firefly
Space: Above and Beyond
Trek: TNG (though there's some individual episodes that belong near the top of the list)

I like X Files and LOVE Heroes but they aren't a space-opera kind of show.

I can't stand Crusade, Voyager, Farscape, Stargate. Lexx was watchable due to chick factor.

Anyone wanna make a Chiggy Von Richthofen raider rule for aCtA? I'd love to see some minis for some of their models. (Not for aCtA's, just in general.)

I still want mongoose to make a special edition Roger Young and/or other Starship Trooper Ship models. I've got a small resin one, but I saw a larger (expensive) resin model somewhere, that looked amazing. I think I was 18 way back then though and all my money went toward beer... uh root beer. 8)


I'll just be over here holding my breath until someone gets to work on all my ideas. :wink:

I think the Military thing was it's downfall, It limited it's audience. Things like startrek are (despite being on a huge bleedin warship) always touted as exploration and politics etc, so get a more widespread fanbase. SAAB on the other hand went strait at military geeks, and those who want to see lots of explosions and shooting! I don't understand people who don't want to see explosions and shooting!

I don't get it either. I remember the show did have some critical acclaim.

But was bleedin expensive, I think for it's financial outlay, it just didn't get enough viewers, shame. US TV seems to do that a lot, and UK TV just produces crap

Of course its intersting that the new BSG is very hardcore military in style, although it doesn't have big fights every week - its characters are very "adult" in theri motivations, actions and responses...........

BSG can get away with being hardcore military. The whole "survival of the race" thing tends to overide what would be a more normal military styling to the show

BSG does have a huge political content though, plus it was built on the fond memories of those who can remember the origional series, and not the BSG1980 farce..... of course with how season 3 ended, season 4 could easily become that farce!
