B5 universe map

remember that hyperspace travel in b5 isnt tunnels, those lines / routes are like country paths, there better to use as you won't get lost but you don't have to use them.

Yes but there's got to be some logic still. Surely you don't get faster to Sol from Beta 9 by going past B5 yes? B5 is located north of EA space in neutral territory. Take any system in EA space and going to b5 means moving further away from Sol.

What if they were from Vega for example. Wouldn't they be faster on Sol by going directly to Proxima and then to Sol rather than go to B5 only to have to go past proxima anyway...

Methinks whoever created map made slight error of logic here. Well that happens ;-)

yep look at the Narn colony of Ardun. The only jump route goes into Centauri space!

Yeah kinda odd. Why make getting there harder for Narns and easier for Centauri's

Unless Quadrant 1 and Beta 3 were part of Narn empire at one point until centauri took(or rather retook) them? That COULD explain that oddity. If Narns have intent of keeping that they could even if civilian traffic there would be kinda harmed by lack of good travel route. Would end up as military forward base of some kind.

Also the map is flat.. it's possible that some distances are longer than others in 3D. At least that would be a possible justification.

but how would the military traffic get there without a beacon route?

Well there's beacon since they can get to there from quadrant 1...

I don't think it's logical those are ONLY routes you can take. I would say they are only major routes even civilian equipment can follow. Military ones are better ones so can pick up signals from further away.

So any civilian ship trying to reach ardun from quadrant 14 route couldn't pick it(too weak scanners etc) but military grade scanners could pick it, lock to it and then move through hyperspace(start somewhere in quadrant 14-epsilon eridani route and draw line to ardon for imaginary route).

Similary anybody wishing to leave from Ardon would go toward that quadrant 14-epsilon eridani route and when pick it(again likely need military grade sensors) latch onto it and follow into route and off you go again.

Heck depending on distances maybe even civilian scanners could pick...Just maintain lock to old beacon, move off-beacon and once you pick new beacon lock into it...If distance is not too great no problemo.

Just my take on how the hyperspace thing works.
