B5 Lost tales - a little dissapointing

I think I was expecting a little more action. It is always good to see B5 again, but reminded me a little too much of the first star trek movie in 1980, spent the whole time re acquainting you with things that nothing much actually happened.....

Did others really like it? It's not bad, it's just not anything like as good as it could have been.

Like the new Valen class cruiser

What were the new earth cruisers, Apollos?

I think it was a difficult task to pull off, and they may just have managed it. It wasnt great, but it wasnt bad either.

Some consider it a 'filler' episode I suppose, but as we know with B5 many filler episodes contained a fair few snipets of what was to come that were central to the plot arc but then there were others that lead nowhere.

As you say it does take some time to go over old ground, but then would JMS assume every viewer had seen the rest of B5. Possibly but not likely I think.

I wonder if the remaining short movies will move along on a small arc of their own. Part of the appeal with B5 was its interwoven story line, I hope that we get another one with those yet to come.

As for the battle scenes I was expecting more too and was admittedly a tad dissapointed aswell, it all looked smashing though. As for the EA ships being destroyed I took it as two Warlocks. Will watch it later to find out.

Cheers.

Yes a bit of a filler episode....

I am not sure anymore which of the crusade era EA ships are canon and which mongoose made up.

The interesting thing i noticed on the 2nd ship just after it put two powerful beams through a vorchan was that it appeared to be firng 2 barrages of missiles from missile pods to either side about midships which makes it sound like an apollo to me.

Noticed they mentioned omega missiles on the starfury as well?

Those were Warlocks, which is the only Canon ship from amongst the Crusade Era additions to the EA Fleet.

Warlocks do in fact have missiles, as well as big beams (something the Apollo lacks).

Though there are both a Kutai and Balvarin in the same sequence both ships originally developed by Mongooses predecessor AoG, so it nice to see them added to the canon material as well.

The only thing that made me doubt my assumption that it was a Warlock was the fact that it fired two separate beams. I would have thought with that big barrel there the projecton would have been from a single point....

Anyway, it was awesome indeed to see the Balvarin etc, though you did have to watch for them - screen time was minimal.

Not too sure about Quantum Space though, seemed a bit uneccessary to have it at all since it potentialy causes problems re continuity for previous series episodes which depict the future.

i thought the lost tales was crap, worse than legend of the rangers in fact.

Nothing is worse than Legend of the rangers!!! NOTHING! well, maybe Jesus christ vampire hunter, but mostly nothing!

I too have difficulty imagining something worse than Legend of the Rangers. I've only seen 15 minutes of it from about 3/4 of the way through. . . but that 15 minutes made me want to burn out my eyeballs!

Nope I dont believe you Katadder! No matter how bad Lost Tales ends up it cannot possibly be worse than Legend of the Rangers.

And Hiff, a part of me wants to believe that Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter is a real movie just the sheer morbid curiosity :P

As to the warlock, as noted, the beams are the two little nobbly bits under the nose above the hangar, the big spike on the front is some kind of sensor array I believe (not sure what it is exactly but I do know its not the beam)

Well B5 is not really an action packed show. Really if you watch most episodes, their is relatively little action and the series has always been extremely dialogue heavy. Course for a one shot release like this, guess folks did want to see a bit more action, the whole thing really felt like a regular episode of the tv series instead of some kind of "movie"

I finally got around to watching Lost Tales. I didn't think it was that bad. Not by any stretch close to one of the best B5 eps. but still watchable. I'll call Lost Tales 2 "character-driven" episodes. No way as bad as Legend of the Rangers, which I couldn't even sit through because it was so horrible.

It was a good DVD and I totally disagree with the unfair comparison to "Legend of the Rangers." Given the tight budget and the time that has passed since the series, I thought it was a good production (and a good purchase).

Although the Lockley episode dragged a bit, it was an interesting story on theology in the B5 universe. It felt like an abbreviated Season 5 episode and that's okay in my book. I wasn't expecting too much, so it didn't disappoint.

The Sheridan episode was nice, although all of the cooridors seemed so empty and void of life (and we only get to see a couple of Minbari). It was great to see Bruce Boxleitner in the role again. I think the outcome of his story will have long-term repercussions and I hope we get to revisit that story arc again.

I'll keep supporting the movies as long as the writing is good. The effects were amazing and the new ship renderings were phenomenal. I want to see more Babylon 5 in our future!

According to wikipedia the two EA ships are Warlocks. As for the Lost Tales haven't seen it and not likely to after having read the blurb and your comments, not all that comfortable with the concept of a demonically possessed character. Nothing like that ever came up in the origional stuff and I don't see how it is necessary to add it now. Although I still doubt anything could ever be as bad as Legend of the Rangers (remember their 'new firing system', I thought I was having a nightmare in zero-gravity).

I thought they were pretty decent, especially the Sheridan-Galen one, but then I wasn't expecting another "Severed Dreams" or somesuch in the first place as I knew they were pretty limited budget-wise (which is why the intended Garibaldi story wasn't included I've read). Think of them more like stage plays set in the B5 universe rather than full-blown episodes. I think the film company is testing the water with these, and if they sell well enough then future releases may get more money behind them.
