Hi Guys, a quick noob question but how much difference in scale is there in the "Fleet Action" scale and the "normal" ship scale that I have seen on here?

B5 Fleet Scale question

I don't have a picture on me, but somewhere there is one on the gallery thread. You going to be looking at something between 50 - 75% smaller for FA, minimum.
For example, my FA Primus is 2 inches long.
If you are debating which to get I will say that my friend who has ACtA scale said that wished he had gotten FA instead when he saw mine. His reasons: more ships can be on the table at one time and they have good detail. My reason: price. Agents of Gaming still has some inventory online, and you can get anywhere between 2 and 6 FA ships for the same cost as the ACtA versions, at least at today's prices.

The biggest appeal to me was always the ease of transport of FA minis.

Good point about the ship selection. I know it is a little beyond the original question, but it is good to point out that there is a limit on FA ship designs. For example, my first fleet was Centauri, and the only ships I was missing was the Liati and the Adira. How often am I going to use the Adira? Beside, I could always use the ACtA scale Adira alongside everything else and it wouldn't look terribly out of place. As for the Liati, I built one, and I think it is very passable. Check out the pics on page 29 of the gallery.

Ships aren't all to the same scale anyway. At best, within a single fleet, if the model of ship A is bigger than the model of ship B then the "real" ship A is probably bigger than ship B, though not to the same proportions.
Some people use Fleet Action models for smaller ships and B5 Wars / Mongoose for larger ships - especially the Adira and Excalibur/Victory.

he reason I asked is that I have saw some FA scale ships for sale and was thinking of getting em - still haven't managed to make a start on any B5 Fleets yet :-(.
Had a scroll through the Gallery as suggested and some nice stuff on there - especially page 29 :wink: However, not sure I could see anything that showed the size differences, although there's a lot on there and I need to have a close look when I get more time.

Be careful where and from whom you are buying FA scale ships. Agents of Gaming have been great to me. I'd highly recommend them. I have recently had some very serious trouble with someone on the forums here doing a grab-and-go with my money.

Hmmm, been on the AOG site and it seems they have some of the stuff that I want in stock - anyone know for certain that they are still trading and shipping to the UK?
Also, looking at the pics in the B5 ACTA Fleet Books and the pics of the ships for sale on the site, are the fighters that are based on a hexagonal base (one fighter in each point) in the B5 book FA scale or B5 Wars scale?

The long: AoG shut up shop quite a few years ago. Bruce Graw, an AoG guy, bought a load of AoG stock, and bought back from distributors and uses the AoG site to sell them. He is reliable, reputable and the site is a good place to get minis. I know some people have said he takes a while, but I have had no problems when I ordered from him. And his international postage is very reasonable.

Can anybody just confirm for me what size of fighters are the best to use. Are the smaller FA Scale (using the hexagonal bases) better than the B5 Wars scale which appear to be individual ships on their own stands?

I confirm everything that has been said about FA scale and AOG.
It's funny to see that about 100$ worth of FA minis is about the size of a medium sized enveloppe. You would think a lot of ships is missing, but not, everyone is there.
BTW, although I no more play ACTA mainly due to the lack of opponents, I still buy B5 ships for another rule.
AOG is bery useful in that regards.

The smaller FA fighters are probably the best to use, they look closer to scale. Also you can opt to base less than 6 to a stand, to stretch your fighters further.
Both. Most Mongoose fighters are FA scale, six small fighters on a hexagonal base. Some of the larger fighters such as the Drazi Sky Serpent are B5 Wars scale. And the Mongoose White Star Fighter is the FA scale White Star ship.TimoftheC2 said:

Ordered some EA Ships from AOG to get me started (finally). Bought the B5 Wars scale for the main ships and FA scale for the starfurys - should be here in the next week or so -

I've played a number of different historical scales over the years, from 6mm to 25mm and decided that the larger scales are better looking on the table - just more damned expensive.
